Indian Navy Ships Visit Sri Lanka for Professional Engagement

The Indian Navy’s First Training Squadron (1TS), consisting of the INS Tir, INS Sujata, and the Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) Sarathi, docked in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on October 26, 2026. The arrival was celebrated with a ceremonial welcome from the Sri Lanka Navy, which included a vibrant performance by the naval band, symbolizing the beginning of a significant port call.

This visit aims to foster professional interactions between the Indian and Sri Lankan navies, particularly focusing on the sea trainees currently training with the First Training Squadron. Following their arrival, the Director General of Naval Training and the Commander of the Eastern Naval Area from the Sri Lanka Navy engaged with the trainees aboard the visiting ships. This interaction served as an excellent opportunity for the trainees to share their experiences and perspectives on naval training.

Professional Engagements and Public Outreach

During the port call, personnel from both navies will partake in various professional and training activities, including cross-training visits and a Passage Exercise (PASSEX). Such engagements are designed to facilitate an exchange of knowledge and best practices, improving coordination and collaboration between the two maritime forces.

In addition to professional interactions, community outreach programs and ship tours for the public are scheduled throughout the port call. These initiatives will allow local residents to engage with the visiting naval personnel and gain insights into the Indian Navy’s operations and training protocols.

Strengthening Maritime Ties

This port call exemplifies the longstanding maritime partnership between India and Sri Lanka, highlighting both countries’ dedication to enhancing mutual engagement and cooperation. It aligns with India’s vision of Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions (MAHASAGAR), emphasizing collaborative efforts aimed at promoting maritime security and regional development.
