Mumbai-Bengaluru and Delhi-Varanasi Vande Bharat Sleeper Trains: Essential Routes, Timings, Fares, and Details

Indian Railways is expanding its premium overnight train network with the introduction of two new Vande Bharat Sleeper services. The new routes will connect Mumbai and Bengaluru, as well as Varanasi and New Delhi. The Bengaluru-Mumbai service is set to launch on October 31, followed by the Varanasi-New Delhi service on November 1. These services aim to enhance overnight connectivity for business travelers, students, and tourists.

Mumbai-Bengaluru Vande Bharat Sleeper

The Mumbai-Bengaluru Vande Bharat Sleeper will link Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in Mumbai with Sir M Visvesvaraya Terminal (SMVT) in Bengaluru. The route will include stops at Kalyan, Pune, Solapur, Kalaburagi, Raichur, Guntakal, and Anantapur. This service is expected to operate six days a week, pending official confirmation of the schedule.

The train has completed trial runs at speeds of up to 160 km/h. According to the tentative schedule, the train will depart CSMT at 8:10 PM and arrive in Bengaluru at 11:55 AM the next day, covering the journey in 15 hours and 45 minutes. This reduces travel time by approximately six hours and 20 minutes compared to the existing Udyan Express.

Delhi-Varanasi Vande Bharat Sleeper

The second service will connect Varanasi with New Delhi, passing through Prayagraj and Kanpur. This route is expected to enhance overnight travel options between eastern Uttar Pradesh and the national capital. It will also improve connectivity for passengers traveling from Prayagraj to Delhi, providing an alternative to existing services like the Humsafar Express and Shiv Ganga Express.

Train number 27421 is scheduled to depart Varanasi at 8:50 PM, reaching Prayagraj at 10:35 PM, and then continuing to Kanpur Central before arriving in New Delhi at 5:55 AM the following day. The return journey will see train number 27422 leave New Delhi at 9:40 PM, arriving in Prayagraj at 4:45 AM and Varanasi at 6:45 AM.

Vande Bharat Sleeper Fares

The fare structure for the Vande Bharat Sleeper trains is based on a per-passenger, per-kilometer rate. For the third air-conditioned class (3AC), the fare is set at Rs 2.40 per kilometer, excluding GST. The indicative fare for a 1,000 km journey in 3AC is Rs 2,400, excluding GST. The fare range for Vande Bharat Sleeper trains is between Rs 2.40 and Rs 3.80 per passenger per kilometer.

Ticket Booking and Reservations

Vande Bharat Sleeper trains do not offer Reservation Against Cancellation (RAC) tickets. Passengers on the waiting list can secure confirmed tickets if reservations are canceled. The reservation system includes earmarked lower berths for senior citizens, women aged 45 and above, and pregnant women.

Food and Catering Arrangements

The menu for the Mumbai-Bengaluru Vande Bharat Sleeper is being developed in collaboration with the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC). Regional cuisines are expected to be featured on board. The first Vande Bharat Sleeper train was inaugurated on January 17, 2026, on the Howrah-Kamakhya route. The new services will further expand the Vande Bharat Sleeper network.
