India Launches Task Force for Public Exam Reforms
The Government of India has announced the formation of a High-Powered Task Force (HPTF), chaired by Shri Nandan Nilekani, aimed at exploring and recommending fundamental reforms in the conduct, security, design, and governance of public examinations, notably those overseen by the National Testing Agency (NTA). This initiative seeks to fundamentally enhance the examination system, ensuring it is robust, secure, and adaptable to future needs.
The Task Force’s primary focus will be on strengthening institutional systems and processes while ensuring integrity and security across all examinations. In addition, the group will evaluate the deployment of advanced technologies, the enhancement of examination infrastructure, and measures to promote greater accessibility and inclusion. A crucial part of this initiative is the commitment to safeguarding the well-being of students throughout the examination process.
Seeking Input from Key Stakeholders
To enrich the reform process, the HPTF recognizes the value of engaging with a wide array of stakeholders. The Task Force is inviting suggestions from various groups including:
- Students and candidates
- Parents
- Teachers and academic institutions
- Examination-conducting and test-indenting bodies
- Subject matter experts and technology professionals
- Industry organizations
- Civil society organizations
- Other interested stakeholders
Contributions are welcome in several areas, such as the security and conduct of public examinations, assessment methodologies, governance and accountability, the prevention of examination malpractices, and the implementation of technology in secure computer-based testing environments. The HPTF is also keen to hear ideas on creating an inclusive examination framework that facilitates better access for candidates from diverse social, economic, regional, and linguistic backgrounds.

The deadline for submitting suggestions is September 13, 2026. Contributions can be made through the Task Force’s dedicated website, by phone, via WhatsApp, or through email. All submissions will be considered, with options available for suggestions in English, Hindi, and various regional languages.
