Putin Confirms Ongoing Fertilizer Supplies to India Amidst Global Market Dynamics
Ahead of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to India next month, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar delivered a personal message from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to him. During their meeting, Putin assured that Russia would continue its fertilizer supplies to India. Jaishankar also briefed Putin on the outcomes of the recent 27th India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technological, and Cultural Cooperation.
Putin emphasized the importance of expanding trade and energy ties, particularly in the fertilizer sector. He stated that Russia is committed to resolving issues related to fertilizer supplies for Indian farmers and the agricultural sector. “There are many items on the agenda, which extends far beyond energy supplies,” he noted, highlighting that trade is on the rise again after a slight decline last year.
Jaishankar conveyed Modi’s eagerness to welcome Putin for the BRICS summit on September 12. The two leaders are also expected to meet during the SCO summit in Kyrgyzstan from August 31 to September 1. Earlier in the day, Jaishankar met with Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov, where discussions included cooperation in various sectors such as trade, investments, energy, and technology.
