AIIA Launches Innovative Garbhini Mitra Course for Maternal Support

The All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) in New Delhi has announced the launch of the Garbhini Mitra Course for the academic session of 2026–2027. This new initiative, supported by the Ministry of Ayush, aims to train individuals in providing vital health education and support to women during pregnancy and after childbirth. The course is positioned as a skill-development program that emphasizes the importance of maternal health and wellness.

Rooted in traditional Ayurvedic practices, the course focuses on Garbhini Paricharya (antenatal care), Sutika Paricharya (postnatal care), and Garbhadhana Vidhi (pre-conception care). Spanning six months, the program will take place on weekdays from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. It offers participants hands-on training in various essential aspects, including trimester-specific diet guidelines, lifestyle adjustments, pregnancy-safe yoga, emotional support during labor, newborn massage, and basic life support protocols.

Course Details and Eligibility

The Garbhini Mitra Course will be held at AIIA’s campus in Sarita Vihar, New Delhi, and will accommodate 20 students per batch. To be eligible, applicants must have completed the Senior Secondary (10+2) examination from a recognized board in India and should be at least 18 years old. Even those awaiting their 12th-grade results can apply provisionally.

Career Opportunities After Graduation

Upon successful completion of the course, graduates will have the opportunity to work as Garbhini Mitra Assistants, Prenatal/Postnatal Care Assistants, Antenatal Wellness Guides, and Maternal Health Support Workers. They can find employment in various settings such as Ayush centers, maternity clinics, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), community health projects, and wellness institutions.

Supporting Prenatal Care

The Garbhini Mitra initiative is designed to complement clinical antenatal care and is not a substitute for it. Essential check-ups, diagnostic tests, and monitoring of blood pressure and hemoglobin remain crucial. The trained Garbhini Mitras will play a vital role in supporting pregnant women by recognizing warning signs and assisting in timely referrals to healthcare professionals.

The deadline for submitting applications for this course is August 31, 2026. For further details, interested candidates can refer to the course brochure available through official channels.
