Logistics Data Bank Hits 10 Crore Container Milestone
The Logistics Data Bank (LDB) has achieved a significant milestone by tracking 10 crore EXIM containers since its inception in 2016. This advanced platform enhances visibility regarding the movement of export and import containers across India. Utilizing cutting-edge technology, the LDB streamlines logistics operations, providing critical information to stakeholders and enabling effective monitoring of container movements.
On the occasion of this achievement, Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal, highlighted the importance of the LDB in India’s logistics sector. He remarked, “The tracking of 10 crore containers through the Logistics Data Bank marks a vital step in our logistics journey. Technology is simplifying, expediting, and enhancing the efficiency of our logistics systems, thereby boosting the competitiveness of Indian industry. Proper logistics will play a crucial role in fortifying our manufacturing sector, increasing our global presence, and fulfilling the vision of a Viksit Bharat set forth by our Hon’ble Prime Minister.”
Comprehensive Tracking Across India
The Logistics Data Bank offers a complete view of 100 percent of India’s EXIM container movements through RFID-based technology. This extensive system encompasses 19 ports and 32 container terminals across the country. The LDB’s reach extends to 103 Inland Container Depots, 439 Container Freight Stations, various Empty Yards, Parking Plazas, Industrial Zones, 89 Manufacturing Special Economic Zones, and over 5,500 railway stations, along with 269 toll plazas and three Integrated Check Posts.
One of its notable features includes the analytics service that provides insights into dwell time, transit time, as well as the performance of ports and terminals. This functionality assists stakeholders in optimizing logistics operations and addressing potential bottlenecks in the supply chain.
Advancements and Future Goals
In September 2025, the union minister launched LDB 2.0, which further enhanced the platform’s capabilities. This upgrade introduced high-seas tracking for India’s export containers and improved multimodal shipment visibility, making logistics even more efficient.
The LDB employs advanced technologies such as Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data, and Cloud technologies to monitor container movements across ports, rail networks, industrial zones, borders, and highways. This ensures near real-time visibility throughout the logistics chain. Additionally, the World Bank’s Logistics Performance Index has acknowledged the LDB’s contributory role in bolstering India’s logistics performance.

On average, the LDB experiences over 1.5 crore container searches monthly. Stakeholders can conveniently track containers through the user-friendly website at www.ldb.co.in, which operates as a single-window platform.
