DRI Uncovers Major Drug Manufacturing Operation in Uttar Pradesh
The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has made a significant breakthrough in its ongoing battle against illegal drug production and trafficking. Recently, DRI officials raided a hidden drug manufacturing facility located in a residential area of Jewar, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Uttar Pradesh. This operation, conducted on the nights of August 9 and 10, 2026, resulted in the confiscation of substantial quantities of narcotics and manufacturing equipment.
In a tactically executed intelligence-led operation, agents seized around 30 kilograms of amphetamine and precursor chemicals intended for drug production. The raid revealed a fully operational clandestine manufacturing setup equipped with electrical furnaces, measuring tools, and various chemicals necessary for producing psychotropic substances. Field tests confirmed the presence of amphetamine, classified under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act of 1985.
Arrests Made in Connection to Illicit Activities
During the operation, a foreign national and his Indian female accomplice were apprehended. Initial investigations showed that the suspects employed a covert approach, bringing in manufacturing equipment and chemicals during the night. They would operate the facility for about a week before clearing the premises and removing all gear to avoid attracting attention from the local community, repeating this cycle every couple of months.
Broader Strategy Against Clandestine Drug Networks
This recent operation is part of DRI’s heightened efforts to dismantle underground drug manufacturing networks. Over the past month, DRI has taken action against other illicit operations, including a Mephedrone production site in Gujarat and another facility producing Alprazolam and Diazepam in Maharashtra. These joint operations led to multiple arrests and the confiscation of significant quantities of illegal substances, underlining DRI’s commitment to erasing the entire ecosystem of drug creation—from sourcing chemicals and establishing clandestine labs to trafficking and attempted exportation.
The consistent focus on drug manufacturing infrastructures highlights the dynamic strategies employed by trafficking networks to conceal their activities. DRI’s extensive operations showcase its relentless pursuit of dismantling these illegal activities, thereby making strides toward a safer community.
