New Recruitment Drive in Eklavya Model Schools Boosts Tribal Education
In a recent address to the Lok Sabha, Union Minister of State for Tribal Affairs Shri Durgadas Uikey revealed that the Ministry of Tribal Affairs has not received any requests to alter the current centralized recruitment process for teachers and staff at Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRSs).
The government has approved 31 teaching and 21 non-teaching positions for each EMRS catering to students up to the 12th grade, aiming to gradually fill these roles. Notably, 13 of the 21 non-teaching positions will be filled through outsourcing to encourage local employment and community involvement.
To streamline the hiring process, the Ministry has introduced a centralized recruitment mechanism known as the EMRS Staff Selection Examination (ESSE). This initiative is designed to ensure that qualified educational professionals are appointed across the nation’s EMRSs. To date, a total of 9,111 teaching and non-teaching staff have been successfully recruited, and examinations have been conducted for an additional 7,267 positions.
Newly appointed staff members undergo comprehensive training that covers a variety of essential topics, including the importance of Tribal culture, methods to enhance the academic performance of Tribal students, and strategies for teaching regional languages.
As part of their training, arrangements have been made for sessions focused on local languages, facilitated by State educational Societies and regional language instructors assigned to EMRSs. Furthermore, candidates accepting their appointments are required to pass a regional language competency assessment relevant to the State where they will be working during their probationary period.
