Mass Cycling Event Promotes Fitness in New Delhi
Today, the Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, championed the nationwide 80th edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle from the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi. This vibrant event aimed to boost fitness awareness and was attended by more than 9,000 participants engaging in various physical activities, including cycling, Zumba, and yoga.
A Celebration of Health and Community
The event not only marked a significant milestone in the Fit India movement but was also organized in collaboration with the Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisation to honor the 100 years of the revered spiritual leader, Sri Sathya Sai. The community gathered to partake in a cycling ride, community run, and interactive games, which included a dedicated Game Zone featuring life-sized chess, ludo, carrom, and even sports like table tennis, futsal, and badminton.
Encouraging a Healthier Nation
Dr. Mandaviya emphasized the importance of prioritizing health, stating, “For any country to be counted as a developed nation, the health of its citizens is essential. I would urge all Indians to set aside at least one hour from their mobile screens and dedicate that time to their personal health by engaging in sports activities.” This call to action aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed India by 2047.
Community Engagement and Support
As the event unfolded, Dr. Mandaviya, alongside other dignitaries, commenced proceedings with Vedic invocations and lamp lighting. They also led the community in a pledge for a Nasha Mukt Bharat (Addiction-Free India) before the fitness activities kicked off. Nimish Gulabrai Pandya, the All India President of Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisation, praised the initiative, highlighting the synergy between the Fit India motto of promoting health and the Organisation’s commitment to serve others.
A Growing Movement
Launched in December 2024, the Fit India Sundays on Cycle initiative has rapidly evolved into a nationwide movement aimed at getting citizens of all ages to invest in their fitness. The slogan “fitness ki dose, aadha ghanta roz” encourages everyone to commit at least 30 minutes daily to physical activity. So far, this initiative has attracted over 30 lakh participants across thousands of locations throughout the country.
Expansive reach and support
The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) has collaborated with multiple organizations, including the Cycling Federation of India (CFI), Art of Living, and Heartfulness, to host the cycling drives in all States and Union Territories. This broad participation includes various training centres like the SAI Regional Centres and Khelo India Centres, further cementing the event’s role in fostering a culture of fitness throughout India.
