Mumbai Port Authority Marks 154th Foundation Day with Major Development Projects

New Delhi, June 25, 2026: The Mumbai Port Authority celebrated its 154th Foundation Day by announcing an ambitious development pipeline that includes 63 projects, collectively valued at ₹5,028.17 crore. Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, highlighted the government’s commitment to transforming the historic port into a modern and sustainable maritime hub during the event.

Among the 63 projects, there are seven projects recently inaugurated worth ₹132.29 crore, 34 projects for which foundation stones were laid worth ₹1,354.59 crore, and an additional 22 newly announced initiatives valued at ₹3,541.29 crore. These projects aim to enhance port infrastructure, waterfront development, logistics, and operational efficiency, marking a significant step in India’s maritime evolution.

Speaking at the event, Sonowal congratulated Mumbai Port Authority for its longstanding service, citing its critical role in India’s maritime transformation. He stated, “Mumbai Port Authority has been a cornerstone of India’s maritime history for more than a century and a half. Today, as India moves towards Viksit Bharat 2047, our ports are evolving into engines of economic growth, sustainability, and global competitiveness. The projects showcased today reflect our commitment to building world-class port infrastructure and enhancing logistics efficiency, promoting cruise tourism, and creating opportunities for future generations.”

The Minister also unveiled two significant agreements aimed at improving port operations: the Indira Dock Operations and Maintenance Agreement and the Viksit Bharat Mumbai Marina Agreement. These agreements are expected to enhance the productive utilization of Mumbai Port’s assets and accelerate waterfront development.

The celebration, themed “Together We Can,” recognized the contributions of various stakeholders, including officers, employees, workers, port users, shipping lines, and trade partners who have played essential roles in the port’s growth over its 154-year history.

Minister of State for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Shantanu Thakur, emphasized the importance of the Mumbai Port Authority as a vital pillar of India’s maritime ecosystem. He acknowledged the commitment of its officers and stakeholders in preserving the port’s legacy and ensuring future growth.

The program featured a presentation detailing the journey of Mumbai Port Authority, alongside a commemorative film celebrating the 100-year milestone of the Mumbai Port Sports Club. Awards were also presented to sports achievers, employees, and stakeholders for their valuable contributions.

The event was attended by key officials, including Vijay Kumar from the Ministry of Ports, Dr. M. Angamuthu, Chairperson of Mumbai Port Authority, and other senior officials, industry representatives, and members of the maritime community.
