India Extends Tender Deadline under REPM Scheme for Global Participation
The Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) has announced an extension of the bidding timelines for its global tender under the Rare Earth Permanent Magnet (REPM) scheme. This decision comes in response to requests from various stakeholders who seek more time to participate in the bidding process. The Bid Due Date has been pushed back from June 29, 2026, to July 29, 2026, while the opening of Technical Bids is now scheduled for July 30, 2026. The addendum detailing these changes has been published on the Central Public Procurement (CPP) Portal for all interested parties.
The initial global tender was released on March 20, 2026, which aimed to select manufacturers as beneficiaries under the REPM scheme. This ambitious initiative, approved by the Union Cabinet led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 26, 2025, has a total financial outlay of ₹7,280 crore. The scheme’s goal is to establish a total capacity of 6,000 Metric Tons Per Annum (MTPA) for integrated REPM manufacturing facilities in India.
The REPM scheme represents a groundbreaking effort to bolster India’s self-reliance in key technology sectors. Rare Earth Permanent Magnets are recognized as some of the most powerful magnets globally and are essential components in various industries, including electric vehicles, wind energy, high-end electronics, and defense systems. By developing a local manufacturing ecosystem from Neodymium-Praseodymium (NdPr) oxide to the production of finished magnets, the scheme aims to significantly decrease India’s reliance on imports in this critical sector.
This strategic initiative not only positions India advantageously within the competitive global REPM market but also promotes sustainable and advanced domestic manufacturing. By extending the tender deadline, the MHI aims to facilitate broader participation and enhance the overall competitiveness of the bids received. Stakeholders are encouraged to keep abreast of developments through the information available on the CPP Portal.
