India Ships Premium Banganapalle Mangoes to Singapore

In a major development for India’s fresh produce export sector, the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has achieved a landmark milestone. In partnership with the ICAR-Central Institute for Subtropical Horticulture (CISH) in Lucknow, APEDA has facilitated the first commercial sea shipment of high-quality Banganapalle mangoes from India to Singapore. This exciting venture is poised to enhance the international market presence of Indian mangoes.

The consignment, which consisted of 5 metric tonnes (MT) of Banganapalle mangoes, was exported by Osum Food Solutions LLP on June 11, 2026, and successfully reached Singapore on June 24, 2026. This event not only underscores the importance of sustainable export logistics but also paves the way for expanding market opportunities for premium Indian mango exports.

Quality Sourcing and Standards Compliance

The mangoes were sourced from orchards in Andhra Pradesh that adhere to Good Agricultural Practices (GAP). They were then processed and packed at an APEDA-recognized facility in Karnataka. The entire shipment complied with Singapore’s quality and phytosanitary regulations, ensuring the mangoes were in optimal condition upon arrival.

Upon receipt, the importer, EC-Links Pte Ltd in Singapore, praised the mangoes for their sweetness, even ripening, and excellent shelf life. The successful fulfillment of all import requirements demonstrates the efficacy of advanced post-harvest management and cold-chain logistics employed during the sea transportation process.

Economic Gains for Farmers

This export initiative has not only showcased the quality of Indian mangoes but also significantly benefited local farmers. The mangoes earned around ₹50 per kilogram in the export market, nearly doubling the domestic market price that ranged between ₹25 and ₹26 per kilogram. This boost in farm-gate returns offers enhanced value for growers, contributing positively to their livelihoods.

Growing Potential in Marine Transport

The successful shipment highlights the viability of sea freight as a cost-effective, eco-friendly, and scalable mode of transport for fresh fruits. With support from robust cold-chain infrastructure, scientific handling practices, and efficient logistics management, maritime transport holds significant promise for bolstering the global competitiveness of Indian horticultural exports.

Banganapalle mangoes, one of India’s most celebrated varieties, are favored for their striking golden-yellow hue, delightful aroma, and sweet, fiberless pulp. The strong international demand for this mango variety signifies vast potential for further growth in India’s mango export sector.

APEDA’s Role in Market Expansion

APEDA has been actively working to promote the use of sea freight for exporting fresh fruits and vegetables through various initiatives aimed at market development, infrastructure enhancement, and capacity building for exporters. The successful shipment to Singapore is expected to inspire wider adoption of maritime transport for horticultural exports and reinforce India’s standing as a reliable supplier of premium agricultural products worldwide.

This initiative reflects the Government of India’s broader objectives of boosting agricultural exports, increasing farmers’ earnings, and expanding the global reach of Indian agricultural produce through efficient export routes.
