Youth Camp Celebrates 150 Years of ‘Vande Mataram’

The first seven-day Vande Mataram Camp kicked off today at Brainware University in Barasat, Kolkata, organized by Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat) under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India. Running from June 24 to June 30, 2026, this camp commemorates the 150th anniversary of the iconic national song ‘Vande Mataram’, penned by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay.

Inauguration Ceremony Highlights

The opening ceremony featured a range of dignitaries, including Prof. (Dr.) Sankar Gangopadhyay, Vice Chancellor of Brainware University; Shri Deb Kumar Chatterjee, State Director of Mera Yuva Bharat; and several other notable officials. The event commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp and a floral tribute to Chattopadhyay’s portrait, followed by a stirring rendition of ‘Vande Mataram’ performed by the NSS Unit of Brainware University.

A Gathering of Young Minds

Bringing together 150 participants from states such as Gujarat, Meghalaya, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and from the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, the camp showcases India’s cultural richness. Under the theme “One Song, One Spirit, One Nation,” the initiative aims to promote national integration and patriotism while deepening participants’ appreciation of the country’s constitutional values and cultural heritage.

Cultural Exchange and Activities

The inaugural day also featured a vibrant cultural exchange, with participants sharing unique traditions reflective of their regional backgrounds, thereby emphasizing the theme of unity in diversity. The day concluded with a group dance celebrating ‘Vande Mataram‘ and collective singing of the national song.

Focus on Youth Engagement

Throughout the week, participants will engage in a range of enlightening sessions covering constitutional and civic values, the historical significance of ‘Vande Mataram’, and youth leadership development. Additionally, cultural exchange activities and discussions addressing youth-related issues are planned. This program is geared towards fostering informed, responsible citizens who are committed to nation-building while strengthening national unity and social harmony.
