Insights from Adani Group AGM: Gautam Adani Discusses 10 GW Nuclear Power Capacity and Ambitious Energy Plans

At the Adani Group’s annual general meeting, chairman Gautam Adani announced plans to develop 10 gigawatts (GW) of nuclear power capacity by 2035. This marks the conglomerate’s entry into the nuclear energy sector, complementing its existing portfolio that includes thermal, renewable, hydroelectric, and gas-based power. Adani confirmed that land has already been identified for the proposed venture, Adani Atomic Energy, which he described as crucial for enhancing India’s long-term energy security.

Adani emphasized that the initiative is part of a broader strategy to address rising power consumption and geopolitical uncertainties. He stated, “Our entry into nuclear energy through Adani Atomic Energy is another confident step towards securing India’s long-term energy future.” The group aims to meet the increasing demand for reliable and clean electricity, positioning itself early in the nuclear sector.

The announcement coincides with the Adani Group’s significant investments across the energy value chain. Adani noted that the integrated infrastructure approach is designed to provide dependable and affordable power while reducing reliance on external sources. He highlighted that the group’s investments in infrastructure exceeded Rs 1.5 lakh crore during FY26, accounting for over 30% of all new private-sector capital expenditure in India that year.

Adani Power is leading the group’s expansion in the power sector, implementing the largest private-sector investment program in electricity generation, with capital expenditure exceeding Rs 2 lakh crore. The goal is to increase generation capacity to 45 GW over the next five years. Additionally, Adani Energy Solutions reported a transmission order book of Rs 72,000 crore, bolstered by projects like the Khavda-South Olpad high-voltage direct current transmission corridor.

In the renewable energy sector, Adani announced a partnership with Bhutan’s Druk Green Power Corporation to develop 5,000 MW of hydropower capacity. This initiative aims to enhance regional energy cooperation while contributing to renewable baseload power generation. In gas distribution, Adani Total Gas has surpassed 1.1 million residential piped natural gas connections and plans to expand its network to meet rising demand for cleaner energy sources.

Beyond energy, Adani highlighted growth across the group’s ports, airports, logistics, and digital infrastructure. Adani Ports handled over 500 million tonnes of cargo in FY26 and is on track to manage 1 billion tonnes annually by 2030. The group also commissioned the Navi Mumbai International Airport and opened a new terminal at Guwahati Airport. In digital infrastructure, the data center business aims for a capacity of 3 GW by 2030, with a binding agreement signed with Google for a gigawatt-scale project in Visakhapatnam.

For FY26, the Adani Group reported consolidated revenue of Rs 2.92 lakh crore, a 7.4% increase from the previous year. EBITDA rose to Rs 94,834 crore, while profit after tax climbed 13.9% to Rs 46,376 crore.
