Haj Policy 2027: Simplifying the Pilgrimage Experience for Indian Muslims

The Ministry of Minority Affairs has officially unveiled the Haj Policy 2027, marking a significant step towards enhancing the pilgrimage experience for Indian Muslims. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju announced that the Haj Committee of India is now accepting applications for Haj-2027, which can be submitted conveniently online through the official Haj Committee portal and the Haj Suvidha App.

In a bid to streamline the process, the quota distribution remains consistent, with 70% allocated to the Haj Committee of India and 30% to the private sector. This translates to 122,518 seats available through the Haj Committee and 52,507 through private entities. The Government of India is also striving to increase the overall Haj quota for Indian pilgrims, which reached 175,025 last year.

Improvements and Progress in Pilgrim Support

This announcement follows a thorough review meeting held on June 18, 2026, during which the provisions for Haj-2026 were assessed and the roadmap for the upcoming pilgrimage was laid out. The proactive release of the policy and immediate commencement of applications demonstrate the Ministry’s commitment to timely preparations in line with the expectations of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The Haj Policy 2027 builds upon successful initiatives from the previous year, enhancing comfort, safety, and dignity for every pilgrim. Significant improvements include increased on-ground support, with the ratio of State Haj Inspectors improving from one per 150 to one per 135 pilgrims. Additionally, efforts will be made to address the lengthy waiting lists fairly, prioritizing the top 20% of the waitlisted applicants from Haj-2026.

Introducing Technology for a Seamless Experience

The highly praised Short Haj Package will also continue, now including Kolkata as an embarkation point to cater to regional demands. Medical screening processes have been revamped to align with Saudi health guidelines, ensuring that individuals with chronic conditions will not be permitted to travel.

Notably, the Ministry is integrating advanced artificial intelligence (AI) technology into the Haj experience. This includes AI-assisted application processing and real-time grievance management to optimize pilgrim management. A dedicated conversational AI tool will also be available, providing support in Hindi, Urdu, and major regional languages for all phases of the pilgrimage, including application submissions, flight information, and emergency assistance.

Call to Action for Prospective Pilgrims

Union Minister Rijiju emphasized the importance of timely applications, directing the Haj Committee of India to ensure a transparent application process. This initiative underscores the Government’s unwavering commitment to offering a safe, comfortable, and dignified pilgrimage experience for Indian citizens heading to the holy sites in Saudi Arabia.
