MIFF 2026 Showcases Young Filmmakers with Creative Minds of Tomorrow
Mumbai is abuzz with excitement as the Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF) 2026 highlights a stunning array of short fiction films through its special initiative, Creative Minds of Tomorrow (CMOT). This unique platform shines a light on the creativity and storytelling prowess of emerging filmmakers from across India, celebrating their innovative takes on contemporary themes.
A Diverse Range of Short Films
The festival features nine selected films that delve into modern issues such as technology, relationships, mental health, identity, and the essence of human connection. One standout film is Gullu, directed by Arshaly Jose, which follows Gulshan as he navigates life’s complexities after losing his phone in Goa—finding solace in an unexpected driver named Salim.
Another notable entry is Hey Maya, helmed by Suryansh Deo Srivastava. This film captures the relatable tale of a couple seeking to enhance their romance with the help of an AI relationship advisor, only to face unforeseen challenges linked to technology’s role in love. Similarly, Khali Khopdi, directed by Vishnu PK, invites viewers on a profound journey of self-reflection as a man grapples with the concept of time and the intrinsic value of life.
Celebrating Human Connection
Combining animation and live-action, Kokum by Srishti Garg portrays a young woman’s awakening to the emptiness of her digital relationships, urging viewers to cherish real human connections. In a more comedic vein, Lovefix Subscription, also directed by Suryansh Deo Srivastava, tells the amusing story of a woman who subscribes to a service aimed at “upgrading” her boyfriend, resulting in unexpected hilarity.
The narrative continues with The Paper Sky, where director Raghunath S N reveals the transformation of Neerja, better known as Mumbai’s “Traffic Girl,” after a journalist discovers her life in Goa. Meanwhile, The Window, directed by Piyush Sharma, warmly depicts the bond between a tech-savvy granddaughter and her traditional grandmother as they find commonality across generations.
Empowering Stories of Resilience
Director Sanjoli Malani’s The Woman Who Has a Name explores a poignant tale of resilience and empowerment, as a woman confronts the challenges of online harassment. Lastly, We Can Hear the Same Music, directed by Bonita Rajpurohit, tells a touching story of a mute man and a blind woman who use technology to navigate communication barriers, expressing their love in unique ways.
Nurturing Future Talent
These films reflect the voices of a new generation of filmmakers, fearless in addressing current societal issues while emphasizing empathy and connection. Creative Minds of Tomorrow reaffirms MIFF 2026’s dedication to fostering budding talent, providing an esteemed platform for these young storytellers to share their work with both national and international audiences.
