NHAI Launches Revolutionary Tolling System in Rajasthan
In a groundbreaking move to enhance the Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) system in India, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has introduced the Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) tolling system at the Daulatpura Toll Plaza located along the Delhi-Jaipur section of NH-48 in Rajasthan. This innovative approach features barrier-less tolling, allowing vehicles to glide through toll points without stopping, thus promoting uninterrupted traffic flow.
The MLFF initiative marks a significant advancement in tolling technology by integrating Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) with the FASTag-based electronic tolling infrastructure. This shift aligns seamlessly with the Government of India’s commitment to providing citizen-centric services through the adoption of advanced technologies, ultimately aimed at improving the Ease of Living and Ease of Doing Business in the nation.
Future Expansion and Benefits
Following this successful launch at Daulatpura, NHAI has plans to upgrade additional toll plazas, specifically those at Shahjahanpur and Manoharpur, to the MLFF system. This transformation is expected to enhance the commuting experience on the frequently traveled Delhi-Jaipur route, making it even more efficient and barrier-free.
The previous implementations of the MLFF system at the Chorayasi Toll Plaza on the Surat–Bharuch stretch of NH-48 in Gujarat and at the Mundka Bakkarwala Toll Plaza on Urban Extension Road-II in Delhi have paved the way for this new launch. The MLFF implementation is anticipated to cut down waiting times to zero, allowing for smoother vehicle movement, which is expected to save commuters valuable time, improve fuel efficiency, and lower vehicular emissions.
User Responsibilities and E-Notice System
To enjoy a hassle-free experience under the MLFF system, users must ensure that their FASTag accounts maintain a sufficient balance. In instances of insufficient balance, invalid tags, or non-functional FASTags, users will receive an Electronic Notice (E-Notice) regarding the non-payment of fees. They are required to settle the normal user fee within 72 hours. Failure to comply within this timeframe will result in the fee being doubled, according to the vehicle category. Users can view and pay E-Notices through the designated portal and can also submit grievances within 72 hours of receiving the notice.
The introduction of the E-Notice system is already in effect, aiming to streamline fee collection and enforce compliance. Additionally, non-payment may lead to restrictions on FASTag functionalities and other vehicle-related services on the VAHAN platform.
Enhancing Tolling Efficiency Nationwide
This shifting paradigm in tolling is set to bolster the overall ecosystem by enhancing transparency, reducing the costs tied to maintaining physical toll booths, and improving the operational efficiency of toll operations across India. As the country continues to advance its digital infrastructure, the MLFF system represents a significant milestone in modernizing highway travel.
