India’s Pharma Sector Strengthens Global Healthcare Commitment

Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal, emphasized India’s dedication to making quality healthcare accessible worldwide during the Global Ambassador Meet on the Pharmaceutical Sector in New Delhi. He highlighted the nation’s core philosophy of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘One Earth, One Health,’ both of which shape India’s approach toward healthcare and the pharmaceutical industry.
Shri Goyal remarked that India stands as a trustworthy global partner in pharmaceuticals, having proven its capacity to deliver quality, reliability, and affordability. He pointed to the COVID-19 pandemic as a pivotal moment when India not only fulfilled domestic demand but also provided essential medicines and vaccines to numerous countries, especially in the Global South and emerging economies. This global reach showcases the sector’s significant capabilities.
According to the Minister, India’s pharmaceutical strength is built on three main pillars: trust, innovation, and partnership. He mentioned that Indian pharmaceuticals enjoy widespread acceptance in international markets due to established quality standards and robust manufacturing capabilities. Goyal also encouraged global companies to invest in India, highlighting the country’s growing emphasis on research, innovation, and advanced technologies.
Export Growth and Future Goals
India is poised to enhance its role as a leader in the global pharmaceutical landscape, serving as an innovator and reliable supplier of affordable medicines. During his address, Shri Goyal noted that Indian pharmaceutical exports are projected to rise from approximately USD 14 billion in FY 2014-15 to an estimated USD 31 billion by FY 2025-26. Medicines produced in India reach patients in over 200 nations, demonstrating the country’s expanding influence and expertise.

The event will showcase India’s pharmaceutical and healthcare capabilities, gathering over 700 exhibitors and around 25,000 domestic visitors, along with more than 600 international business delegates.
