BRICS Culture Meeting Kicks Off in Varanasi, Focusing on Creativity and Cooperation
The Second BRICS Culture Working Group (CWG) Meeting launched today in the historic city of Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, bringing together representatives from BRICS member countries. Chaired by Shri Vivek Aggarwal, Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, the inaugural session welcomed both in-person and virtual participants from various nations, including Brazil, China, Indonesia, Iran, South Africa, the United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia, Egypt, and the Russian Federation.
Building Bridges Through Creative Economy
During the first panel discussion, titled “Creative Economy and People-to-People Cooperation: Innovation, Partnerships and the Way Forward,” specifically moderated by Aggarwal, delegates emphasized the critical role of the creative economy in fostering inclusive development and social cohesion. The conversation also highlighted the importance of cultural exchange, market access, and digital innovation in enhancing collaboration among member states.
Exploring Copyrights and AI Ethics
The meeting’s second panel, moderated by Dr. Sachchidanand Joshi, Member Secretary of the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), centered on “Copyright and Ethical AI in the Creative Economy: Advancing Best Practices.” This dialogue raised significant points regarding copyright protection, cultural attribution, and ethical implications of utilizing Artificial Intelligence within the creative sector. The discussions opened the floor for exploring future collaborative opportunities among the BRICS countries.
Cultural Celebration Showcases Indian Heritage
The day’s proceedings culminated in a cultural programme that celebrated India’s rich and diverse cultural heritage. Attendees were treated to a mesmerizing musical ensemble that showcased the unique musical traditions across various regions of India, reflecting both cultural plurality and national unity. Following this, a vibrant presentation titled “Colours of India” brought forth an array of classical and folk dance forms, offering delegates a delightful glimpse into India’s artistic traditions.
