India to Host Conference on Litigation Management in 2026

The Department of Legal Affairs, under the Ministry of Law and Justice, Government of India, is set to convene a significant conference on February 28, 2026, at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. This event, themed “Strengthening Institutional Litigation Governance for Viksit Bharat @2047,” aims to enhance the management of government litigation—a core aspect of effective governance in India.

The Union Minister of State (I/C) for the Ministry of Law and Justice will deliver the keynote address and preside over the inaugural ceremony, which will also feature speeches from the Attorney General and Solicitor General of India. The conference emphasizes the importance of viewing litigation not solely as a legal issue but as a vital part of the broader governance framework.

Goals and Objectives of the Conference

Recognizing the complexities of governmental litigation, the conference seeks to establish a robust system for periodic assessment and review mechanisms. Its overarching goal is to transform litigation governance into a more effective administrative function. This will ultimately lead to reduced case backlogs, improved cost efficiency, and better adherence to judicial rulings.

Focus on Efficient Management Practices

One of the key objectives of the conference is to foster a shared understanding among various Ministries, Departments, and Law Officers regarding the ‘Directive on Efficient and Effective Management of Litigation, 2025.’ Participants will focus on minimizing recurring litigation, enhancing institutional frameworks for prompt dispute resolution, and encouraging the deliberate use of digital tools—such as the Litigation Management and Information System (LIMBS)—to monitor cases and inform decision-making.

Aligning with National Vision

By developing effective practices in litigation management, the conference aligns with the long-term national vision of Viksit Bharat 2047. This commitment to strengthening governance frameworks is crucial in promoting a more transparent and efficient judicial process in India.
