SVAMITVA Scheme: Precision Mapping Transforming Rural Property Ownership
The Indian government is revolutionizing rural property ownership through the Survey of Villages Abadi and Mapping with Improvised Technology in Village Areas (SVAMITVA) Scheme. By employing cutting-edge drone technology and a network of Continuously Operating Reference Stations (CORS), the initiative aims to accurately map the Abadi areas of villages, ensuring precise property delineation and ownership records.
The SVAMITVA Scheme harnesses advanced surveying techniques to produce high-resolution orthorectified images and geo-referenced maps. This process involves ground verification with local authorities and community members, addressing any disagreements before the state government issues Property Cards. With a remarkable accuracy of up to 5 cm and maps generated at a scale of 1:500, the technology facilitates the clear demarcation of property boundaries, significantly benefiting rural populations.
Significant Milestones Achieved
Since its inception, the SVAMITVA Scheme has made substantial progress, with a staggering 3.06 crore Property Cards issued for approximately 1.86 lakh villages across India. Currently, 31 states and union territories have been integrated into the program, reflecting broad participation and adoption.
State-wise Distribution of Property Cards
Data shared by Union Minister Shri Rajiv Ranjan Singh in a Lok Sabha written reply on February 10, 2026, reveals the extensive reach of the scheme. A detailed breakdown of property cards prepared across various states is as follows:
