CCTNS Empowers India’s Police with Advanced Crime Tracking Technology

The Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems (CCTNS) has revolutionized the way law enforcement agencies in India handle data related to crimes and criminals. Designed for near real-time data collection, updating, and analysis, this system offers significant advantages to state police, central law enforcement organizations, and Indian citizens alike.
CCTNS facilitates a comprehensive computerization of various police processes, including the management of complaints, FIRs, investigation details, charge sheets, court disposals, and appeals. This advancement streamlines workflows and enhances efficiency across multiple law enforcement levels. The system also allows law enforcement to conduct searches on national and state databases pertaining to crime and criminals, enabling the seamless sharing of critical information among police departments, central investigative agencies, courts, prisons, forensic units, and prosecution offices, thereby strengthening the justice delivery process in India.
Services for Citizens Through Digital Platforms
In a bid to improve public engagement and service delivery, the CCTNS has introduced a range of citizen services accessible through the Digital Police Portal and the Central Citizen Services Portal. Among the key services offered at the national level are:
- Search for missing persons
- Generation of Vehicle No Objection Certificates (NOC)
- Information on proclaimed offenders
- Finding the nearest police station
Additionally, state police citizen portals offer nine mandatory services designed to assist citizens further, including:
- Filing complaints to the relevant police station
- Obtaining the status of filed complaints
- Accessing copies of FIRs
- Details on arrested individuals and wanted criminals
- Information on missing or kidnapped persons
- Details about stolen or recovered vehicles and properties
- Requesting issuance or renewal of NOCs for various events
- Verification requests for personal services like employment or passports
- A portal for sharing information and downloading necessary forms
Widespread Adoption Across Police Stations
As of January 1, 2026, all 17,792 police stations in India have adopted the CCTNS, marking a significant milestone in the integration of technology and law enforcement. This development was confirmed by the Minister of State in the Ministry of Home Affairs, Shri Bandi Sanjay Kumar, in a written response to a question in the Lok Sabha.
The implementation of the CCTNS not only enhances the capabilities of police forces but also reinforces public trust in the criminal justice system by promoting transparency and accountability.
