SBI Launches Nationwide Annadata Utsav to Honor and Empower Farmers
Chandigarh, January 14, 2026: The State Bank of India (SBI), the largest bank in the nation, has initiated a remarkable 15-day outreach programme called Annadata Utsav. This nationwide event is dedicated to recognizing and celebrating the invaluable contributions of India’s farming community, which plays a crucial role in bolstering the country’s food security and economic landscape.
Engaging Farmers Through Direct Interaction
As part of the Annadata Utsav, SBI set up Gram Choupals at nearly 15,000 branches located in rural and semi-urban areas across India. These gatherings served as a unique platform for farmers to engage directly with bank representatives. During these events, SBI took the opportunity to honor exceptional farmers who have demonstrated excellence in agriculture, agribusiness, and rural entrepreneurship. By involving senior executives and officials from its Agri Business Unit (ABU) and Government Sponsored Schemes (GSS) verticals, the bank reaffirms its commitment to being a trusted ally throughout the agricultural value chain.
The initiative also provided an avenue for educating farmers about pivotal Government of India programmes including the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund, PMFME, and PM-KUSUM, among others. SBI showcased its own agri-focused financial products such as the Agri & Food Enterprise Loan (AFEL) and Kisan Samriddhi Rin, geared towards enhancing the farmers’ journey from production to market. Moreover, the sessions underscored the bank’s holistic support system extending from crop production and storage to processing and renewable energy solutions.
Promoting Financial Literacy Among Farmers
To further empower the farming community, the programme featured important knowledge-sharing sessions that focused on financial wellness. Topics such as credit discipline, timely loan repayment, prevention of cyber fraud, and depositor awareness were highlighted in cooperation with organizations like CIBIL and CRIF. These sessions aimed to arm farmers and agri-entrepreneurs with the necessary financial knowledge to enhance their economic stability.
Over 124,000 stakeholders including small and marginal farmers, agri-entrepreneurs, food processors, and members of Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) actively participated in the festivities. The celebrations culminated in a series of talk shows broadcast across national and regional television and radio channels, where senior SBI executives paid tribute to the relentless spirit of India’s farmers and reiterated the bank’s steadfast commitment to the agricultural sector.
By championing the cause of farmers and supporting their transition from mere producers to significant players in the food processing sector, SBI is playing a fundamental role in fostering a resilient, inclusive, and prosperous agricultural economy in India.
