India Launches Drug Free Campus Campaign at Delhi University
The Vice-President of India, Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan, officially inaugurated the Drug Free Campus Campaign at the University of Delhi today, highlighting the critical need for continuous and united efforts to shield the youth from substance abuse. This initiative is part of a broader vision for a developed and self-reliant India, termed _Viksit_ and _Aatma-nirbhar Bharat_. The launch event saw the attendance of notable figures, including Union Minister for Education, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Delhi’s Education Minister Shri Ashish Sood, University of Delhi’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Yogesh Singh, alongside numerous senior officials, faculty members, and students.
During the inauguration, the Vice-President introduced a dedicated e-pledge platform and a mobile application as part of the _Nasha Mukt Parisar Abhiyaan_, encouraging university students across the nation to participate actively and take a pledge towards maintaining a drug-free campus. He urged the Union Minister for Education to ensure that this campaign becomes central to all Central Higher Educational Institutions in India.
In his address, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan expressed happiness in attending the event in the esteemed company of Vice-President Radhakrishnan. He emphasized that this initiative transcends being purely a campaign; it signifies a robust collective commitment to the youth, society, and the nation at large.
The Union Minister elaborated on the significance of the University of Delhi not only as an academic institution but also as a vibrant hub for generating ideas and values. He noted that the Drug Free Campus Campaign represents a meaningful step in tackling a pressing challenge faced by the youth today. Pradhan cautioned that drug abuse presents serious risks not only to personal health but also to the potential development of young individuals and the country’s capacity to cultivate responsible citizens. He expressed strong belief that the university’s initiative will play a pivotal role in the nationwide movement against drug abuse.
Moreover, he articulated that the vision for Viksit Bharat 2047, as envisioned by the Prime Minister, can only be realized if the youth are healthy, well-informed, self-reliant, and driven by purpose.
