PM Modi Engages with Indian AI Start-Ups Ahead of AI Summit
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi held a pivotal roundtable discussion with 12 Indian AI start-ups at his residence on Lok Kalyan Marg earlier today. This gathering comes just ahead of the highly anticipated India AI Impact Summit 2026, set to take place next month. The participating start-ups, which qualified for the AI for ALL: Global Impact Challenge, showcased their innovative ideas and developments in artificial intelligence.
The range of projects presented by these start-ups is impressively diverse. Areas of focus include Indian language foundation models, multilingual large language models (LLMs), advanced speech-to-text systems, and innovations in text-to-audio and text-to-video technologies. Additionally, the use of generative AI for creating 3D content tailored for e-commerce, marketing, and personalized content has been explored. Other significant applications involve engineering simulations, material research, advanced analytics for informed decision-making, and advancements in healthcare diagnostics and medical research.
AI’s Transformative Role
During the meeting, Prime Minister Modi underscored the transformative impact of artificial intelligence on society. He expressed that the upcoming summit will position India as a leader in the technology sector, emphasizing the nation’s ongoing commitment to leveraging AI for development. The Prime Minister affirmed that Indian start-ups and AI entrepreneurs are crucial co-architects in shaping the country’s future, highlighting India’s immense capacity for both innovation and large-scale implementation.
A World-Class AI Model
The Prime Minister encouraged Indian innovators to develop a unique AI model that reflects the ethos of “Made in India, Made for the World.” He asserted that the trust the world places in India is a significant asset, urging the need for AI models that uphold ethical standards, are unbiased, transparent, and compliant with data privacy principles. Modi called for Indian start-ups to strive for global leadership in AI, focusing on promoting affordable, inclusive, and frugal innovations.
Call for Indigenous Solutions
In his remarks, the Prime Minister also noted the importance of ensuring that AI solutions are attuned to local and regional needs. He emphasized the promotion of indigenous content and regional languages through these technologies. The meeting was attended by prominent figures, including CEOs and heads from various Indian AI start-ups such as Avataar, BharatGen, Fractal, and others, along with Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, and Minister of State, Shri Jitin Prasada. Together, they shared insights that reflect India’s growing prominence on the global AI map.
