TRAI Unveils New Mobile Network Performance Results in Himachal Pradesh
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has announced the findings of its Independent Drive Test (IDT) conducted in the Himachal Pradesh Licensed Service Area (LSA) during November 2025. These tests, held from November 11 to 13, were meticulously evaluated to assess mobile network performance across various urban settings, including busy city routes, institutional hotspots, public transport hubs, and high-speed corridors. Under the supervision of the TRAI Regional Office in Delhi, dedicated teams covered a total of 180 kilometers of city routes along with walk tests and inter-operator calling assessments.
Comprehensive Network Evaluation
During the testing period, the TRAI teams conducted detailed evaluations at six hotspot locations and performed a 2.3-kilometer walk test. The assessment focused on multiple mobile technologies, including 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G, thereby reflecting the experiences of users on various handsets. The key parameters examined included voice and data services, which revealed important insights about network quality.
Key Findings in Voice Services
In voice services, the Call Setup Success Rate (CSSR) was notably high among the four major telecom service providers: Airtel at 98.11%, BSNL at 98.64%, RJIL at 99.73%, and VIL at 96.82%. Additionally, drop call rates varied, with Airtel recording 2.20%, BSNL at 6.34%, RJIL at a commendable 0.55%, and VIL at 0.27%.
Data Performance Metrics
Data service performance also showed significant discrepancies across the providers. Airtel achieved an average download speed of 168.90 Mbps, while BSNL lagged behind at 8.26 Mbps. RJIL led with an impressive 252.75 Mbps, and VIL managed only 12.64 Mbps. For upload speeds, Airtel maintained 34.93 Mbps, BSNL 5.37 Mbps, RJIL 30.78 Mbps, and VIL 5.91 Mbps. Moreover, latency for Airtel was recorded at 22.56 ms, while VIL had a higher latency of 34.40 ms.
Real-World Conditions and Testing Locations
The assessment included high-density neighborhoods such as Panjhera and Baddi University, as well as critical public spaces like the Baddi Bus Stand and City Hospital Baddi. The walk test on November 13 was particularly focused on the City Square Mall and Gol Market Baddi, ensuring comprehensive coverage of network behavior in crowded urban environments.
