Drive Test Results Highlight Telecom Performance Across India

Recent drive tests conducted in various cities across India have revealed significant insights into the performance of telecom services. These tests, which took place in locations such as Alappuzha, Dehradun, Shimla, and Hyderabad, aimed to assess the quality of service (QoS) parameters including call setup success rates, call setup times, drop call rates, and mean opinion scores (MOS). The results provide a comprehensive overview of how different service providers are performing in these regions.

Alappuzha and Dehradun: Key Findings

In Alappuzha, the drive test route covered both the city and the scenic backwaters, providing a unique environment for evaluating network performance. The results indicated that major telecom operators achieved a call setup success rate of 100% for Airtel and RJIL, while BSNL and VIL recorded 96.46% and 98.58%, respectively. The average call setup times were also impressive, with Airtel leading at 1.18 seconds, followed closely by RJIL at 0.52 seconds.

Similarly, the drive test in Dehradun showcased the performance of telecom services in the UP West LSA. Here, Airtel and RJIL again achieved a 100% call setup success rate, while BSNL and VIL recorded 87.92% and 99.80%, respectively. The call setup times varied, with Airtel at 0.89 seconds and BSNL at 4.15 seconds, indicating a significant disparity in service efficiency.

Shimla and Hyderabad: Performance Metrics

The drive tests in Shimla, which included routes from the city to Kalka, highlighted the performance of telecom services in hilly terrains. Airtel and RJIL maintained high call setup success rates of 98.55% and 98.57%, respectively, while BSNL and VIL lagged behind at 93.79% and 90.93%. The call setup times were notably varied, with Airtel achieving 1.36 seconds and BSNL at 3.65 seconds.

In Hyderabad, the drive tests revealed a similar trend, with Airtel and VIL achieving call setup success rates of 99.38% and 99.16%, respectively. The average call setup times were also competitive, with Airtel at 3.98 seconds and VIL at 0.62 seconds. These results underscore the importance of network reliability and speed in urban environments.

Performance Summary Across Regions

The overall performance metrics from the drive tests across these regions indicate that Airtel consistently leads in call setup success rates and times, followed closely by RJIL. BSNL and VIL show variability in their performance, particularly in call setup times and drop call rates. For instance, Airtel recorded a drop call rate of 0.00%, while BSNL’s rate was significantly higher at 2.34%.

The mean opinion scores (MOS) also reflect user satisfaction, with Airtel achieving a score of 4.02, while BSNL lagged at 2.91. These findings highlight the competitive landscape of telecom services in India, emphasizing the need for continuous improvement in service quality to meet consumer expectations.
