Constitution of India Launched in Santhali Language at Rashtrapati Bhavan

In a historic event held on December 25, 2025, President Droupadi Murmu unveiled the Constitution of India translated into the Santhali language during a ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan. This significant milestone allows the Santhali-speaking population to read and understand the Constitution in their native language, utilizing the Ol Chiki script.
During her speech, President Murmu expressed her pride in making the Constitution accessible to the Santhali community. Their dedication has paved the way for the Santhali Constitution release within the centenary year of the script’s creation. Attendees included Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan and Union Minister of State for Law and Justice, Arjun Ram Meghwal, who celebrated the event’s significance.
Santhali, an ancient language included in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution through the 92nd Amendment Act in 2003, is spoken by many tribal groups across India, particularly in the states of Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, and Bihar. The recognition and preservation of this language underscore the cultural diversity of India and the government’s commitment to inclusivity.
