Equity Markets Show Mild Bearish Bias Amid Rupee Fluctuations
The equity markets experienced a subdued trading session marked by a narrow range and a slight bearish sentiment. This decline was primarily influenced by the rupee’s short-lived recovery after hitting an all-time low against the US dollar. The local currency began the day at a record low of 91.07, managed to strengthen momentarily to 89.96, but fell back above the 90 mark as foreign capital continued to exit the market.
Market Sentiment Affected by Economic Indicators
Investors exhibited cautious behavior, primarily due to rising US bond yields in anticipation of critical consumer inflation data, coupled with a lack of new domestic triggers. The combination of these factors contributed to a pessimistic outlook across the market.
Technical Analysis of Nifty 50
The Nifty 50 index is currently navigating through a phase of corrective consolidation after failing to maintain a position above the significant 25,800 level. Presently, the index is trading below its 20-day Exponential Moving Average (EMA), while remaining just above the 50-day EMA—a sign of diminished short-term momentum despite no structural breakdown. Investors should keep a close watch on the 25,900 to 26,000 resistance zone; any upside attempts could face considerable selling pressure. Key support levels lie between 25,700 and 25,750, and a daily close below 25,700 could signal a continuation of the current correction, potentially pushing the index towards 25,550 to 25,400.
Outlook for Bank Nifty
On the other hand, the Bank Nifty is currently consolidating following a recent upward movement, with short-term momentum showing signs of easing, though the broader trend remains steady. The index is situated above both its 50-day and 200-day moving averages, indicating that the current market phase is one of consolidation rather than reversal. Its immediate trading range is confined between 58,700 and 59,500. A decisive drop below 58,700 could shift sentiment bearish, exposing levels at 58,400-58,200. Conversely, a sustained close above 59,500 might reignite bullish momentum towards the 60,000 levels. Until a breakout or breakdown occurs, the Bank Nifty is expected to remain in a neutral to slightly negative bias.
