Bharatiya Bhasha Utsav 2025 Celebrates Linguistic Richness
The Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSEL) proudly concluded the Bharatiya Bhasha Utsav (BBU) 2025 on December 11, 2025, at the National Bal Bhavan in New Delhi. The event, which commemorated the birth anniversary of revered poet Subramania Bharati, was attended by notable figures including Shri Sanjay Kumar, Secretary of DoSEL, and Prof. M. Jagadesh Kumar, Former Chairman of the University Grants Commission.
Reflecting on a Versatile Celebration
During the event, Shri Sanjay Kumar shared reflections from the three years of Bharatiya Bhasha Utsav activities. He emphasized Subramania Bharati’s enduring influence on India’s freedom struggle, social reform initiatives, and the importance of embracing multilingualism. This year’s theme, “Many Languages, One Emotion”, advocates for the significance of learning in one’s mother tongue, following the vision set forth in the National Education Policy 2020.
Encouraging Multilingualism and Creative Thinking
Prof. M. Jagadesh Kumar engaged with students about the vital role that learning multiple languages plays in fostering critical thinking and creativity. He noted that cognitive flexibility acquired through multilingualism enhances students’ abilities to appreciate diverse viewpoints, thus preparing them for future contributions toward Viksit Bharat 2047.
A Showcase of India’s Cultural Heritage
The celebration featured a vibrant cultural program showcasing India’s rich linguistic and cultural diversity. Students from various institutions, including Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS), and Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS), performed an array of songs, classical and folk dances, multilingual patriotic songs, _nukkad natak_, and poetry recitations. This lively display not only highlighted the creative talents of young performers but also fostered a sense of cultural unity among the participants.
Interactive and Educational Activities
In addition to performances, there were stalls exhibiting teaching materials developed in different languages, alongside engaging language games that excited many participants. The enthusiastic involvement of students emphasized the importance of linguistic engagement and cultural exchange.
Commitment to Preserve Linguistic Heritage
This year’s Bharatiya Bhasha Utsav reaffirmed the DoSEL’s dedication to preserving India’s linguistic heritage and promoting multilingual education as envisioned in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The week-long celebrations, which spanned from December 4 to December 11, saw schools across India organize various interactive activities designed to enrich the understanding of multilingualism and cultural harmony.
