Vice President of Brazil, H.E. Mr. Geraldo Alckmin, praises Ayurveda
The All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) in New Delhi welcomed H.E. Mr. Geraldo Alckmin, Vice President of Brazil, during his official visit to India. The visit highlighted the significance of Ayurveda as a traditional health system and its growing global relevance. Mr. Alckmin praised India’s efforts in promoting Ayurveda, emphasizing its potential for preventive healthcare. His remarks underscored the importance of collaboration between India and Brazil in the field of traditional medicine.
Vice President’s Appreciation for Ayurveda
During his visit, H.E. Mr. Geraldo Alckmin expressed profound admiration for India’s leadership in traditional health systems. He referred to Ayurveda as a “5,000-year-old treasure of health and wisdom,” commending AIIA for its contributions to health promotion, disease treatment, and education. Mr. Alckmin stated, “The world needs Ayurveda’s timeless wisdom for preventive and sustainable healthcare,” highlighting the increasing demand for natural health solutions. He also noted the rising life expectancy and the corresponding need for preventive healthcare systems, indicating a personal interest in experiencing Ayurvedic treatment for his back pain if time permitted.
Warm Reception and Collaborative Efforts
The Vice President was warmly welcomed by Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary of the Ministry of Ayush, and Prof. (Vaidya) Pradeep Kumar Prajapati, Director of AIIA. They discussed the potential for enhanced collaboration between India and Brazil in traditional medicine and wellness industries. Mr. Alckmin expressed gratitude for the hospitality extended to him and his delegation, which included 14 officials, such as the Brazilian Ambassador to India and the Director of the Brazilian Health Regulatory Agency (ANVISA). This visit aimed to strengthen ties and explore opportunities for joint initiatives in health and wellness.
Exploring AIIA’s Contributions
During the visit, the Brazilian delegation received an overview of AIIA’s significant contributions to Ayurveda education, clinical services, and advanced research. They toured various departments, including the Hospital Block and the Centre for Integrative Health Sciences, and engaged with faculty, researchers, and students. A presentation showcased AIIA’s global initiatives and collaborations aimed at promoting evidence-based Ayurveda. This visit reaffirmed the ongoing cooperation between India and Brazil, supported by existing Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) that facilitate academic exchange and joint research in traditional medicine.
Strengthening International Collaborations
AIIA has established research and academic partnerships with several Brazilian institutions, signing three key MoUs. These agreements include collaborations with the Sri Vajera Foundation, the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, and the Federal University of São Paulo. The focus of these partnerships is to enhance the quality and accessibility of traditional medicine while fostering scientific knowledge exchange. Both India and Brazil, with their rich biodiversity and traditional health practices, aim to develop sustainable healthcare models that integrate ancient wisdom with modern science. The growing popularity of Ayurveda and other Indian traditional systems in Brazil reflects a broader acceptance of holistic healthcare approaches worldwide.
