NHAI Introduces ‘Clean Toilet Picture Challenge’ on National Highways
Under the initiative known as ‘Special Campaign 5.0’, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has introduced an innovative program called the ‘Clean Toilet Picture Challenge’. This initiative invites users of national highways to report unclean toilets at toll plazas, rewarding them for their efforts to promote hygiene. Participants can upload geo-tagged images through the ‘Rajmargyatra’ app, providing essential details to facilitate the reporting process. The campaign aims to enhance the cleanliness of toilet facilities along the highways and will run until October 31, 2025.
Reporting Process and Rewards
The ‘Clean Toilet Picture Challenge’ allows highway users to report dirty toilets by submitting geo-tagged photographs via the Rajmargyatra app. To participate, users must provide their name, location, vehicle registration number (VRN), and mobile number. Each valid report will earn the user a reward of Rs. 1,000, credited as a FASTag recharge linked to their vehicle registration number. It is important to note that the reward is non-transferable and cannot be redeemed for cash. This initiative is designed to encourage active participation from the public in maintaining cleanliness on national highways.
Eligibility and Limitations
The initiative is applicable only to toilets that are constructed, operated, or maintained under the jurisdiction of the NHAI. Toilets located at retail fuel stations, roadside eateries, or other public facilities not managed by NHAI are excluded from this program. Each vehicle registration number can only claim one reward throughout the entire campaign period. Additionally, each toilet facility on the national highway can only be reported for a reward once per day. If multiple reports are submitted for the same toilet on a given day, only the first valid report will be considered for the reward.
Image Submission Guidelines
To ensure the integrity of the reporting process, only clear, geo-tagged, and time-stamped images taken through the Rajmargyatra app will be accepted. Any manipulated, duplicate, or previously reported images will be disqualified. The verification of entries will involve AI-assisted screening, along with manual validation when necessary. This rigorous process aims to maintain the quality and reliability of the reports submitted by users, ensuring that the initiative effectively addresses the cleanliness of toilet facilities along the highways.
Government Commitment to Cleanliness
The ‘Clean Toilet Picture Challenge’ is part of the Government of India’s broader ‘Special Campaign 5.0’, which emphasizes cleanliness, transparency, and efficiency in governance. As part of this campaign, the NHAI is also focusing on various initiatives, including the removal of potholes, beautification of flyovers, and enhancing road safety signage. These efforts aim to improve the overall travel experience for users of national highways, reinforcing the government’s commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and safety on the roads.
