Union Minister Prataprao Jadhav Leads Review Meeting on Ayurveda Training Accreditation Board Initiatives

The Ministry of Ayush recently convened a high-level meeting to evaluate the progress of the Ayurveda Training Accreditation Board (ATAB) and its initiatives aimed at promoting Ayurveda globally. Chaired by Shri Prataprao Jadhav, Minister of State for Ayush and Health and Family Welfare, the meeting highlighted ATAB’s achievements in course accreditation and professional endorsement for Ayurveda practitioners abroad. Secretary Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha also participated in the discussions, emphasizing the importance of these efforts in enhancing the credibility of Ayurveda education.

Achievements of the Ayurveda Training Accreditation Board

The Ayurveda Training Accreditation Board (ATAB) was established by the Ministry of Ayush in December 2019, under the administrative framework of Rashtriya Ayurveda Vidyapeeth (RAV). Its primary objective is to accredit Ayurveda training courses that fall outside the jurisdiction of existing regulatory bodies. Since its inception, ATAB has made significant strides, having accredited a total of 113 Ayurveda training courses. This includes 99 courses from 24 Indian institutions and 14 international courses from two countries. These efforts are crucial for standardizing and enhancing the credibility of Ayurveda education on a global scale.

Dr. Vandana Siroha presented an overview of ATAB’s strategic direction during the meeting, focusing on its role in accrediting courses that are not governed by the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) Act, 2020. The board’s initiatives are designed to ensure that Ayurveda education meets high standards, thereby fostering trust and recognition in the field.

Endorsement Scheme for Ayurveda Professionals

In addition to course accreditation, ATAB has introduced a structured endorsement scheme aimed at recognizing qualified Ayurveda professionals practicing internationally. This initiative is designed to ensure that practitioners meet stringent benchmarks in skills, knowledge, and ethical standards. As of now, 41 Ayurveda doctors practicing abroad have received formal endorsements under this scheme, which helps create a trusted global network of accredited practitioners.

The endorsement scheme not only enhances the professional legitimacy of Ayurveda practitioners but also facilitates their international mobility. It supports the integration of Ayurveda into mainstream healthcare systems worldwide, reinforcing public trust in the practice. This initiative opens up new avenues for global collaboration in education, research, and the promotion of India’s traditional medical heritage.

Commitment to Global Outreach and Quality

The Ministry of Ayush remains dedicated to ensuring the quality, credibility, and global outreach of Ayurveda through institutional mechanisms like ATAB. This commitment aligns with India’s vision to position traditional systems of medicine as a cornerstone of global wellness. By focusing on accreditation and endorsement, the Ministry aims to elevate the status of Ayurveda on the international stage.

Through these initiatives, the Ministry seeks to create a robust framework that not only enhances the quality of Ayurveda education but also fosters a collaborative environment for practitioners worldwide. This approach is expected to contribute significantly to the global acceptance and integration of Ayurveda as a viable healthcare option, further promoting India’s rich medical heritage.
