Huawei Mate XTs Set for September Launch; Pricing Details Revealed

Huawei is reportedly preparing to unveil its latest tri-fold smartphone, potentially named the Huawei Mate XTs, which is set to succeed last year’s Mate XT Ultimate Design. Recent leaks suggest that this new device will be launched on September 12, coinciding with the anticipated debut of Apple’s iPhone 17 series. The Mate XTs is expected to feature the Kirin 9020 chipset and aims to compete with Samsung’s upcoming tri-fold smartphone.

Launch Date and Competition

According to Weibo tipster GuoJing, the Huawei Mate XTs is scheduled for release on September 12. This launch date is particularly noteworthy as it aligns closely with the rumored unveiling of Apple’s iPhone 17 series, which is expected to occur between September 8 and 12. If these timelines hold true, Huawei’s new foldable smartphone will debut nearly a year after the Mate XT Ultimate Design, which was introduced in China last September. The timing suggests that Huawei is strategically positioning its product to capture consumer attention during a competitive launch period.

Expected Pricing and Specifications

Reports from the Chinese outlet CNMO indicate that the Huawei Mate XTs will be priced around CNY 20,000, approximately Rs. 2,43,400. This pricing is slightly higher than last year’s Mate XT Ultimate Design, which launched at CNY 19,999 for the base model featuring 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The new model is anticipated to compete directly with Samsung’s first tri-fold smartphone, the Galaxy Z TriFold. The Mate XTs is expected to run on HarmonyOS 5.1 and will likely include an upgraded Tiangong dual-hinge system, enhancing its foldable capabilities.

Camera and Features

The Huawei Mate XTs is rumored to feature a sophisticated camera setup, including a triple rear camera unit led by a 50-megapixel primary sensor with variable aperture support. Additionally, the camera system is expected to incorporate a periscope telephoto sensor, enhancing its photographic capabilities. There are also indications that the device may support satellite connectivity, further expanding its functionality. Recent leaks suggest that the Mate XTs will be available in various colors, including black, purple, red, and white, appealing to a wide range of consumer preferences.

Current Market Landscape

Currently, Huawei’s Mate XT Ultimate Design is the only commercially available tri-fold smartphone. Launched in select global markets in February, it was priced at AED 12,999 (approximately Rs. 3,07,800) for the 16GB RAM and 1TB storage variant. While Tecno has recently introduced its Phantom Ultimate G Fold Concept, details regarding its commercial availability remain unclear. As Huawei prepares to launch the Mate XTs, it will be interesting to see how it performs in a market that is gradually embracing foldable technology.
