First Meeting of the 56th IFFI Steering Committee Conducted in Mumbai

The inaugural meeting of the Steering Committee for the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) took place today at the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) headquarters in Mumbai. Chaired by Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, the meeting brought together key figures from the film industry, including Festival Director Shri Shekhar Kapur and senior officials from the Government of Goa. The committee is gearing up for the festival, which is set to run from November 20 to 28, 2025, in Goa, with a focus on enhancing inclusivity and global engagement.
Strategic Planning for IFFI 2025
The Steering Committee’s discussions centered on strategic planning for IFFI 2025, emphasizing programming, outreach, and talent engagement. The festival aims to foster inclusivity and public engagement through innovative initiatives. A significant highlight of this year’s festival is its renewed focus on youth, which will open doors for student filmmakers and emerging content creators. The committee plans to offer curated masterclasses, industry workshops, and networking opportunities that connect new voices with experienced global mentors. This approach aims to cultivate a new generation of filmmakers who can contribute to the evolving landscape of cinema.
WAVES Film Bazaar: A New Era
In conjunction with IFFI, the Steering Committee discussed the rebranding of the Film Bazaar to WAVES Film Bazaar, which is recognized as South Asiaโs largest film market. This change is part of a broader strategic vision to position India as a global hub for content creation, creativity, and co-productions. The rebranding aims to enhance India’s international film outreach and attract more global collaborations. The committee believes that WAVES Film Bazaar will play a crucial role in facilitating connections between filmmakers, producers, and investors, thereby strengthening the Indian film industry’s global presence.
Expanded Steering Committee for Greater Inclusivity
To promote inclusivity and diverse perspectives, the Steering Committee has expanded its membership from 16 to 31 members. This increase reflects a commitment to a more representative body that includes notable figures from various sectors of the film industry. Among the new members are acclaimed personalities such as Anupam Kher, Guneet Monga Kapoor, and Suhasini Maniratnam. Their collective expertise spans cinema, production, media, and cultural leadership, ensuring that the festival’s design and programming resonate with a wider audience and reflect the richness of India’s cinematic landscape.
Aligning with India’s Creative Economy Vision
IFFI 2025 aligns with India’s broader vision of strengthening the Creative Economy. The festival aims to support startups in the media and entertainment sectors while encouraging global productions to utilize India as a filming destination. This initiative includes single-window facilitation and incentive-based policies designed to attract international filmmakers. With its ambitious programming and commitment to cinematic excellence, the 56th edition of IFFI is set to be a landmark celebration, showcasing the evolving nature of cinema in a connected and collaborative world.
