Operation Sindoor: India’s Initiative Against Terrorism

“Operation Sindoor” has been characterized as a decisive military initiative by India against terrorism, according to Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh. Speaking aboard the indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant off the coast of Goa on May 30, 2025, he emphasized the Indian Navy’s readiness to respond to any threats from Pakistan. Singh’s remarks underscored India’s commitment to combating terrorism, asserting that any hostile actions from Pakistan would be met with significant military force.
India’s Stance on Terrorism
During his address, Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh made it clear that Pakistan must recognize the end of its long-standing involvement in terrorism. He stated that any terrorist acts instigated by Pakistan would have severe repercussions. Singh emphasized that India is prepared to take all necessary measures to eliminate the threat of terrorism. He pointed out that anti-India activities are being conducted openly from Pakistani territory, and India reserves the right to act against terrorists on both land and sea. The global community, he noted, is increasingly acknowledging India’s right to defend its citizens from terrorist threats.
Singh specifically called for the extradition of notorious terrorists such as Hafiz Saeed and Masood Azhar, both of whom are on India’s list of most wanted criminals and are recognized as UN-designated terrorists. He highlighted the recent return of Tahawwur Rana, an accused in the Mumbai attacks, to India, underscoring the need for justice regarding the Mumbai attacks, for which Hafiz Saeed is also culpable.
Military Preparedness and Operations
Rajnath Singh praised the Indian Navy’s role during Operation Sindoor, particularly its ability to restrict the movements of the Pakistani Navy. He noted that the Navy’s deployment in the Arabian Sea, coupled with its superior maritime awareness, effectively confined the Pakistani forces to their own waters. Within 96 hours of a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, the Indian Navy successfully conducted missile firings, demonstrating its combat readiness and strategic intent.
The Raksha Mantri reiterated that the Carrier Battle Group’s force projection signaled India’s military capabilities and resolve. He urged the Navy to maintain its high level of preparedness, echoing Prime Minister Modi’s assertion that any terrorist attack on Indian soil would be treated as an “Act of War.” Singh warned that Operation Sindoor is not concluded but merely paused, indicating that any further aggression from Pakistan would elicit a more severe response.
Integrated Military Strategy
Singh commended the seamless coordination among the Indian Armed Forces during Operation Sindoor, which showcased the effectiveness of joint operations across land, air, and sea. He remarked on the precision of the strikes against terrorist bases in Pakistan, stating that the operation sent a clear message to both terrorists and their sponsors that India would no longer tolerate such threats. The operation’s success was so pronounced that Singh claimed Pakistan had pleaded for an end to hostilities, which India halted on its own terms.
He expressed confidence in India’s military readiness, stating that the country is well-equipped to handle any situation, whether on land, in the air, or at sea. Singh also reflected on the historical significance of the INS Vikrant, recalling its role during the Liberation of Goa in 1961 and its current mission against terrorism.
Future of India’s Naval Power
Concluding his address, Rajnath Singh highlighted the evolving nature of warfare, which now encompasses cyber capabilities and strategic deterrence, in addition to traditional military engagements. He praised the Indian Navy for advancing in these new domains, asserting that it serves as a strategic force that enhances India’s influence in the region. Singh emphasized that India is transitioning from being a regional power to a global one, sending a clear warning to adversaries.
During his visit to Goa, Singh interacted with naval personnel involved in Operation Sindoor and inspected various frontline warships that played crucial roles in the operation. His visit included a Guard of Honour at INS Hansa, where he received updates on maritime operations and the overall readiness of naval units.
