Bharti Airtel Reports Nearly Five-Fold Increase in Q4 Profit, Reaching Rs 11,022

Bharti Airtel has announced a remarkable surge in its consolidated net profit for the January-March 2025 quarter, reaching Rs 11,022 crore. This figure represents a nearly five-fold increase compared to Rs 2,071.6 crore during the same period last year. The telecom giant attributed this impressive growth to a combination of tariff hikes and a significant one-time tax gain, which amounted to approximately Rs 5,913 crore. The company’s total revenue from operations also saw a substantial rise, increasing by 27% year-on-year to Rs 47,876.2 crore.

Strong Revenue Growth

In its latest regulatory filing, Bharti Airtel reported that its total revenue from operations for the fourth quarter of FY25 climbed to Rs 47,876.2 crore, up from Rs 37,599.1 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal year. The company’s standalone revenue in India also experienced a notable increase, rising 15% year-on-year to Rs 36,735 crore, compared to Rs 31,851.5 crore in Q4 FY24. This growth was primarily driven by tariff hikes implemented in July 2024, which significantly boosted mobile revenues. The company noted that mobile revenues grew by 20.6% year-on-year, reflecting its focus on enhancing its service offerings and attracting quality customers.

Subscriber Base and User Metrics

Bharti Airtel’s mobile subscriber base in India reached 42.4 crore during the March quarter, while its total customer base across 15 countries stood at approximately 59 crore. The number of smartphone users on Airtel’s network increased by 2.4 crore year-on-year, now accounting for 77% of its mobile customer base. The average revenue per user (ARPU), a crucial metric in the telecom industry, rose nearly 17% to Rs 245 from Rs 209 a year earlier. Gopal Vittal, the company’s vice-chairman and managing director, highlighted that the mobile business grew by 1.3% sequentially, despite having two fewer days in the quarter, driven by the premiumisation of services.

Financial Performance and Capital Expenditure

For the entire financial year ending March 31, 2025, Bharti Airtel reported a nearly four-fold increase in consolidated net profit, totaling Rs 33,556 crore, compared to Rs 7,467 crore in FY24. The annual revenue from operations also grew by 15.33%, reaching Rs 1,72,985.2 crore, up from Rs 1,49,982.4 crore in the previous fiscal year. However, the company’s net debt rose to Rs 2.03 lakh crore at the end of the March quarter, compared to Rs 1.94 lakh crore a year ago. The company’s capital expenditure for the quarter was Rs 14,401 crore, with Rs 12,553 crore allocated to its operations in India. Bharti Airtel emphasized its commitment to expanding its network, having installed approximately 3,300 additional towers and 13,600 mobile broadband stations during the quarter to enhance customer experience.
