Thomas Chippendale was born on 5 June 1718 ย in Otley, West Riding of Yorkshire, England. Little is known about his early life and education, but he established himself as a cabinet-maker in London around the 1750s. He gained recognition for his exceptional craftsmanship and innovative designs, which would later make him one of the most influential furniture makers of his time.

Chippendale’s career flourished in London, where he set up a workshop and showroom.
