Duygu Asena (19 April 1946 โ 30 July 2006) was a Turkish journalist, best-selling author, and activist for women’s rights.
Life and Career
She was born on 19 April 1946, in Istanbul, Turkey. Duygu Asena grew up in Istanbul and graduated from German High School. She later studied sociology at the Faculty of Literature of Istanbul University. Asena began her career as a journalist and writer in the 1970s, and she quickly gained recognition for her work on women’s rights and feminist issues in Turkey.
As a journalist, Duygu Asena wrote for various Turkish newspapers and magazines, including Milliyet, Hรผrriyet, and Kadฤฑnca. She focused on topics such as women’s rights, gender equality, violence against women, and sexual freedom, which were considered taboo in Turkish society at the time. Asena’s writings were bold, provocative, and unapologetic, challenging traditional gender roles and advocating for women’s empowerment.
Her most well-known book is “Kadฤฑnฤฑn Adฤฑ Yok” (The Woman Has No Name), which was published in 1987. In this book, Asena addressed issues such as sexism, patriarchy, and violence against women in Turkish society. The book became a bestseller in Turkey and has been considered a feminist classic. She passed away on 30 July 2006, in Bodrum, Turkey.
