Mahesh Chandraย Nyayratnaย Bhattacharyya (22 February 1836 โ€“ 12 April 1906), was an Indian Sanskrit scholar. He was the principal of theโ€ฏSanskrit Collegeโ€ฏbetween 1876 and 1895. He also worked with and friend of โ€ฏIshwar Chandra Vidyasagar, who played an important role in theโ€ฏBengal Renaissance. He was one of the most eminentโ€ฏBengalisโ€ฏโ€ฏof the nineteenth century.ย  He was born on 22 February 1836 to aโ€ฏKulin Brahminโ€ฏfamily.

Maharajaโ€ฏChamarajendraย Wadiyar Xโ€ฏ(ย 22 February 1863 โ€“ 28 December 1894),ย the 23rd โ€ฏMaharajaโ€ฏof theโ€ฏ Mysore, between 1868 and 1894.ย He instituted the Representative Assembly of the Mysore Kingdom in 1881. He sponsored the famous journey ofโ€ฏSwami Vivekanandaโ€ฏtoโ€ฏChicagoโ€ฏin 1893. He gave importance to women’s education and founded theโ€ฏKannadaโ€ฏBashojjiviniย School. Chamarajendraย Wadiyar X was born in the old palace in Mysore on 22 February 1863.

Indulalย Kanaiyalalย Yagnikโ€ฏ(22 February 1892 โ€“ 17 July 1972), was anโ€ฏIndian independence activist, writer, and filmmaker. He was the leader of theโ€ฏAll India Kisan Sabhaโ€ฏand one who led theโ€ฏMahagujarat Movement, which initiated the demand for separate statehood. He was elected to theโ€ฏ2nd, ย 3rd,โ€ฏ4th,โ€ฏandโ€ฏ5th Lok Sabha. He was born atย Jhagadiaย Pol inโ€ฏNadiad,โ€ฏKheda, Gujarat.ย

Death Anniversary on 22 February

22 February in Indian history is remembered as the death anniversary of the following personalities:

Kasturbaiย Mohandas Gandhi (11 April 1869 โ€“ 22 February 1944), was an Indian political activist. She marriedโ€ฏMohandas Gandhiโ€ฏ in 1883. In association with her husband and son, she was involved in theโ€ฏIndian independence movementโ€ฏinโ€ฏBritish-ruled India.ย She was very influenced by her husband Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. ย In January 1944, Kasturba suffered two heart attacks after which she was confined to her bed. On 22 February 1944, she died at theย Aga Khan Palaceย inย Poona, aged 74.

Abul Kalam โ€ฏAzadโ€ฏโ€ฏ(11 November 1888 โ€“ 22 February 1958), was an Indian scholar,โ€ฏIslamic theologian,โ€ฏindependence activist, and senior leader of theโ€ฏIndian National Congressโ€ฏduring theโ€ฏIndian independence movement. Following India’s independence, he became the First Minister of Education in the Indian government. ย Azad, committed to a united India until his last attempt was condemned by the advocates of Pakistan, especially the Muslim League. He was honored with Bharat Ratna posthumously in 1992 by the government of India. He died on 22 February 1958.

Sukhbir (9 July 1925 โ€“ 22 February 2012), was a novelist, short-story writer, poet, and essayist. He has written for almost 50 years. In the course of his writing career, he wrote seven novels, eleven short story collections, five poetry collections, essays, letters, and book reviews. He died on 22 February 2012 due to cardiac arrest.
