Youth Writers Selected Under PM-YUVA 3.0 Initiative
The Prime Minister’s Scheme for Mentoring Young Authors (PM-YUVA 3.0), organized by the National Book Trust, India, has revealed its results on the NBT-India website. This initiative, which aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, is designed to inspire young writers to play a vital role in nation building through their creative contributions.
From a nationwide contest, 43 promising authors under the age of 30 have been chosen to develop their book proposals across 22 official Indian languages, as well as English. The selected languages include Assamese, Bangla, Bodo, Dogri, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Kashmiri, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Maithili, Nepali, Odia, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Santali, Sindhi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu. This extensive participation illustrates the scheme’s commitment to fostering inclusive literary growth throughout India. Among the selected authors, there are 19 women and 24 men.
Supporting Young Authors
The successful authors will benefit from a six-month mentorship program guided by prominent scholars in the literary field. Each of the selected writers will also receive a monthly scholarship of Rs 50,000 and enjoy a lifetime royalty of 10% on their published works.
Focus Areas and Themes
PM-YUVA 3.0 emphasizes themes including the role of the Indian Diaspora in nation building, the Indian Knowledge System, and influential figures in modern India from 1950 to 2025. The selected manuscripts are a mix of non-fiction that delve into India’s history, culture, scientific advancements, philosophical inquiries, governance, social reform, and the nation’s engagements on the global stage.
A National Camp for the selected authors is set to take place during the New Delhi World Book Fair, scheduled for January 10-18, 2026. The first batch of books arising from PM-YUVA 3.0 will be published in the coming year, marking a significant step towards nurturing a fresh wave of writers poised to represent Indian literature and thought both domestically and internationally.
