On September 17, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Adi Karmayogi Abhiyan, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at empowering tribal youth in India. This ambitious program is part of the Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh, which runs from November 15, 2024, to November 15, 2025. The initiative aspires to cultivate a new generation of leaders, innovators, and entrepreneurs among tribal communities, marking a significant step towards social transformation.

Inauguration of Student Chapters

The Ministry of Tribal Affairs officially inaugurated the Adi Karmayogi Student Chapters at several prestigious institutions, including IITs, IIMs, AIIMS, and NITs. This launch signifies the start of a nationwide movement aimed at fostering leadership and innovation among tribal students. The Bhagwan Birsa Munda Cell at IIT Delhi will act as the central hub for this initiative, facilitating collaboration and support across various educational institutions. The inaugural event featured notable figures such as Shri Vibhu Nayar, Secretary of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, and Prof. Rangan Banerjee, Director of IIT Delhi, who emphasized the importance of this initiative in shaping future leaders.

The establishment of these student chapters is designed to create a platform for tribal students to engage in leadership roles and contribute to their communities. By connecting students from elite institutions with tribal development programs, the initiative aims to inspire a new generation of change-makers who can address the unique challenges faced by tribal populations.

Objectives and Activities of the Student Chapters

The Adi Karmayogi Student Chapters have several key objectives aimed at empowering tribal youth. One of the primary goals is to inspire students to become leaders and social change agents. The initiative also seeks to promote innovation and technology, encouraging the development of indigenous solutions for tribal advancement. Additionally, the program aims to facilitate entrepreneurship by providing access to a โ‚น50 Crore Venture Capital Fund for tribal-led startups.

To achieve these objectives, the student chapters will engage in various activities, including innovation workshops, mentorship programs, and entrepreneurship support. Students will also be involved in village development projects, helping to create actionable plans for sustainable growth. The initiative emphasizes the importance of bridging the gap between academia and community, promoting sustainable development through collaboration.

Furthermore, the chapters will provide opportunities for internships and fellowships with government bodies and other organizations, allowing students to gain practical experience while contributing to social change. The program also includes a focus on skill development in emerging technologies, such as semiconductor fabrication, in partnership with leading institutions.

Support and Participation from Educational Institutions

The launch of the Adi Karmayogi Student Chapters has garnered significant support from various educational institutions across India. Directors and Vice Chancellors from IITs, IIMs, and other leading universities have expressed their enthusiasm for the initiative. They recognize the potential of the program to create a positive impact on tribal communities and enhance the educational landscape in India.

Institutions participating in the first phase include IIT Delhi, IIT Kharagpur, AIIMS Delhi, and several others. These institutions are committed to fostering a culture of mentorship and innovation, ensuring that tribal students receive the support they need to succeed. The initiative is open to all students and institutions, encouraging widespread participation in establishing new chapters.

Interested institutions can apply to create Adi Karmayogi Student Chapters, further expanding the reach and impact of this transformative initiative. The collaborative efforts of educational leaders and students are expected to drive significant progress in tribal empowerment and social development across the country.
