In a powerful address at the Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue 2026, Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways and Corporate Affairs, Shri Harsh Malhotra, emphasized the pivotal role of India’s youth in shaping the nation’s future. With a vision of a “Viksit Bharat” by 2047, Shri Malhotra highlighted how these young leaders can actively contribute to the nation’s development, advocating for innovative solutions to pressing challenges.
Engaging the Youth in Nation-Building
Welcoming the young participants, Shri Malhotra expressed gratitude to youth who are already making significant advances in their communities through social initiatives and developmental projects. He outlined that the Dialogue serves as a constructive platform for young minds to engage in discussions that affect national policies, rather than merely celebrating achievements.
In further remarks, the Minister pointed out that this initiative echoes Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s strong belief in youth as transformative agents for the country. He reiterated that young citizens are crucial for achieving the goal of transforming India into a developed nation by 2047.
The Role of Women, Farmers, and the Workforce
Shri Malhotra articulated that the Viksit Bharat@2047 vision encompasses a commitment to economic prosperity, social equity, and sustainable governance. With approximately 29 years as the average age in India, the country is well-positioned to leverage its demographic advantage, as nearly 20% of the global youth population resides here.
Underlining the government’s focus on youth empowerment, he mentioned flagship initiatives including the Rozgar Melas and PM Vishwakarma that aim to connect education and skills training with job opportunities. Over the past year and a half, the administration has successfully generated around 11 lakh permanent jobs, signalling a notable commitment to uplifting the workforce.
Women Empowerment Through Skill Development
Shri Malhotra also spotlighted transformative programs designed to enhance women’s roles in society through skill development and entrepreneurship. Initiatives such as Namo Drone Didi and Mission Shakti are instrumental in promoting financial independence among women, ultimately leading to sustainable livelihoods and leadership positions. Additionally, he noted that India is now recognized as the world’s third-largest startup ecosystem, having birthed over two lakh startups that collectively created more than 20 lakh jobs across various sectors, including AI, biotechnology, and green energy. This innovation is crucial for economic growth.
From 2016-2023, India has recorded a remarkable 36% increase in employment due to major labor reforms and expanded social security coverage, now second globally. Employment surged from 47.5 crore to over 64 crore during this period, demonstrating the government’s commitment to job creation.

Shri Malhotra concluded his remarks by reinforcing the importance of youth contributions to national development as part of the Jan Bhagidari vision, championing social service, innovation, and environmental stewardship. He urged young leaders present to own their roles in building a more developed India, assuring them that the nation’s future rests in their capable hands.
