Yoga 365: Transforming Daily Life into a Wellness Journey

Since its global inception in 2015, the International Day of Yoga (IDY) has become a defining event for wellness enthusiasts worldwide. Celebrated on June 21 each year, millions join in to practice yoga in parks, homes, and institutions. Now, the Ministry of Ayush aims to elevate this annual celebration into a year-round practice with the introduction of the Yoga 365 campaign.

Aiming for Daily Practice

At a recent event unveiling the Yoga Mahotsav–2026, which serves as the 100-day countdown to IDY 2026, Shri Prataprao Jadhav, the Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Ayush, expressed a vision that transcends just one day of practice. “The Ministry of Ayush seeks to integrate yoga into the daily lives of citizens,” he said, emphasizing the campaign’s goal to foster a culture of continuous engagement with yoga.

Bridging Awareness and Action

Though awareness about traditional wellness systems is high—95% in rural areas and 96% in urban settings, according to the National Sample Survey (NSS)—the challenge remains to transform this awareness into consistent practice. The NSS indicates that around 1.1 crore households in rural India and 1.4 crore households in urban India have at least one member who practices yoga regularly.

The Yoga 365 initiative addresses this gap, encouraging citizens to adopt yoga not just as an event but as a daily routine to enhance their mental clarity, physical health, and emotional balance. It aims to embed yoga into communities, workplaces, and everyday life.

Engaging Communities and Digitizing Yoga

Beyond just raising awareness, Yoga 365 intends to mobilize communities through strategic outreach efforts. A significant component of this initiative involves a partnership with the wellness platform Habuild to provide free daily online yoga sessions, making the practice accessible to individuals regardless of location or fitness level.

Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary of the Ministry of Ayush, pointed out the extensive potential to turn awareness into daily practice, noting that Yoga 365, along with new yoga protocols for managing non-communicable diseases, aims to make yoga more approachable for everyone.

A Broader Wellness Movement

The campaign acts as an umbrella for various yoga-related initiatives propelling daily practice opportunities. Officials anticipate widespread engagement and behavior change, reinforcing the notion of yoga as a natural part of life.

Ms. Monalisa Dash, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Ayush, reiterated the campaign’s focus on blending community involvement with digital outreach and institutional support to create a culture of wellness in households across the nation.

A Vision for the Future

As the countdown to IDY 2026 commences, Yoga 365 marks a pivotal shift in India’s approach to yoga, focusing on everyday integration rather than mere celebration. The International Day of Yoga has grown into a global phenomenon, uniting over 26 crore participants for IDY 2025 alone, underscoring its status as a major public health initiative.

The vision is straightforward: if millions can practice yoga for one day, they can carry it forward into their daily lives. The true success of Yoga 365 will not only be measured in participation but in the ability to transform yoga into a sustainable habit, promoting enhanced individual health and collective well-being.
