Xiaomi has officially launched its latest electric vehicle, the YU7, positioning it as a formidable competitor to the Tesla Model Y in the Chinese market. Unveiled on Thursday, the YU7 expands Xiaomi’s electric vehicle lineup, which already includes the SU7 sedan and its high-performance variant, the SU7 Ultra. This new SUV boasts impressive specifications, including a powerful motor and advanced battery technology, promising a top speed of 253 km/h and a remarkable range of up to 835 kilometers on a single charge.
Xiaomi YU7 Availability and Color Options
While Xiaomi has yet to disclose the pricing details for the YU7, the electric SUV is set to hit the Chinese market in July. The vehicle will be available in three distinct variants: Standard, Pro, and Max, each offering different performance capabilities and maximum ranges. Customers will have the option to choose from three exterior colors: Emerald Green, Titanium Silver, and Lava Orange. Additionally, the interior can be customized with three color choices, including Pine Gray, Coral Orange, and Twilight Blue, allowing buyers to personalize their driving experience.
Xiaomi YU7 Design Elements
The design of the Xiaomi YU7 draws inspiration from the Ferrari Purosangue, featuring a cabin shape that emphasizes luxury and performance. The SUV incorporates the “waterdrop headlights” from the SU7, enhanced with a hollowed-out design for improved lighting. The rear showcases halo tail lights with downward-angled corners, while the electric-flush door handles remain recessed during motion to enhance aerodynamics.
The YU7’s design also focuses on airflow management, utilizing a multi-duct architecture with 10 through-flow air channels and 19 optimized vents. This design contributes to a drag coefficient of Cd 0.245, resulting in a 59 km improvement in range compared to previous models. The vehicle measures 4,999 mm in length, 1,996 mm in width, and 1,600 mm in height, with a curb weight of 2,405 kg and a wheelbase of 3,000 mm. Safety is a priority, as the YU7 has successfully passed over 50 passive safety tests and meets all crash standards under C-NCAP and C-IASI protocols.
Xiaomi YU7 Features and Cabin Experience
The interior of the Xiaomi YU7 is designed around a “Dual-Zone Surround Luxury Cabin” concept, featuring soft-touch surfaces and Nappa leather upholstery. The front seats are equipped with zero-gravity technology, offering one-touch reclining and a 10-point massage function, while the rear seats can recline up to 135 degrees. The cabin space is designed to be spacious, providing ample headroom and legroom compared to competitors.
Innovative features include the Xiaomi HyperVision Panoramic Display, which utilizes a triple Mini LED screen array to project essential information onto the lower windshield. This display provides dynamic navigation and real-time traffic updates, enhancing the driving experience. The YU7 is powered by a 4nm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, ensuring quick response times for various functions. Additionally, the vehicle is equipped with LiDAR technology, seven anti-glare cameras, and a 4D millimeter-wave radar for advanced driving assistance.
Xiaomi YU7 Performance and Battery Specifications
The performance of the Xiaomi YU7 is impressive, with its dual-motor four-wheel drive variant delivering a maximum horsepower of 690 PS and a peak power of 508 kW. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.23 seconds, showcasing its high-performance capabilities. The YU7 is powered by the Xiaomi HyperEngine V6s Plus electric motors, which have been optimized for improved efficiency.
The Standard variant features a 96.3 kWh battery, providing a maximum range of 835 km (CLTC), while the Pro and Max variants offer ranges of 760 km and 770 km, respectively. The vehicle supports rapid charging, capable of charging from 10% to 80% in just 12 minutes, and can achieve a range of 620 km after only 15 minutes of charging. The YU7 also incorporates advanced braking and suspension systems, ensuring a smooth and safe driving experience. As it prepares for its July launch, the Xiaomi YU7 is expected to compete vigorously with established players like the Tesla Model X and BYD Sealion 07 in the dynamic EV market of China.
