WhatsApp Launches AI-Enhanced Chat Wallpaper Feature

WhatsApp is introducing an innovative feature that allows users to create personalized chat wallpapers using artificial intelligence. This new capability, available in the latest update for iOS, enables users to generate unique backgrounds by providing prompts, which can then be customized before being set as their chat wallpaper. The feature, powered by Meta AI, is also accessible to beta testers on Android. In addition to this, WhatsApp is developing another feature that will allow users to view message replies in a structured thread format.
How WhatsApp’s AI-Powered Chat Wallpaper Feature Works
To access the new AI-powered wallpaper feature, users must update to WhatsApp for iOS version 25.19.75 through the App Store. Once updated, they can find the “Create with AI” option by navigating to Settings, then Chats, followed by Default chat theme, and finally Chat theme. This feature was first identified by WABetaInfo and is gradually being rolled out to users on the stable update channel. Although some users have reported difficulties accessing the feature on the latest iOS version, it has been successfully tested on the beta version of WhatsApp for Android.
When the feature becomes available, users can select the “Create with AI” option, which opens a pop-up card with a text field for inputting prompts. After a brief processing time, Meta AI generates several images based on the user’s input. Users can swipe through the previews at the bottom of the screen to browse the options. If they wish to make adjustments, they can tap the “Make changes” button, allowing them to regenerate the wallpaper according to their specifications. Once satisfied with their selection, users can adjust the wallpaper’s position and brightness before finalizing it by tapping the “Set” button. Testing on the Android beta version confirmed that the AI generator produces images based on prompts, although it may occasionally overlook specific color requests or additional elements.
WhatsApp Developing Threaded Message Replies
In addition to the wallpaper feature, WhatsApp is also working on a new functionality that will allow users to view message replies in a structured thread format. This feature is still under development and aims to enhance the user experience by making it easier to track conversations. By organizing replies into threads, users will be able to follow discussions more effectively, similar to features already available in other messaging apps like iMessage.
The threaded replies feature is expected to be rolled out to beta testers on both iOS and Android in the future. As it is still in development, specific details about its release timeline remain unclear. However, the introduction of this feature could significantly improve how users interact with conversations on WhatsApp, providing a more organized and user-friendly experience.
