WhatsApp Enhances Music Sharing with Spotify Integration
WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new feature for its iOS app that will streamline music sharing on status updates. According to a beta tracker, this integration with Spotify will allow users to share music more easily, eliminating the need for cumbersome steps like forwarding or copying links. This feature is expected to enhance the user experience significantly when sharing music on the platform.
Spotify Integration for WhatsApp Status Updates
As revealed by WABetaInfo, a reliable source for WhatsApp updates, the integration with Spotify is currently under development for a future version of the app. This feature was identified in the latest beta version of WhatsApp for iOS, specifically version 25.8.10.72. Screenshots shared by the tracker indicate that users will be able to share music on their status updates, complete with a preview that includes the song title, artist name, and album cover. Additionally, the feature is expected to include a direct link that opens the track on Spotify through a “Play on Spotify” option. Once this functionality is fully rolled out, users will notice a new “Status” option in the share sheet on Spotify for iOS. This enhancement aims to align the music sharing capabilities of WhatsApp with those of Instagram, another app under the Meta Platforms umbrella. WABetaInfo has noted that this feature is still in development and is not yet available to beta testers, even those registered through Apple’s TestFlight program. However, it is anticipated that more WhatsApp for iOS beta users will gain access to this feature in the coming weeks. Importantly, music shared through status updates will maintain the same end-to-end encryption as regular chats, ensuring that only intended recipients can access the content.
Similar Features in Development for Android
Interestingly, a comparable feature is also being developed for WhatsApp on Android. Earlier this month, it was reported that the Spotify integration was spotted in the beta version of WhatsApp for Android, specifically version 2.25.8.3, which is available through the Google Play Beta Programme. This indicates that WhatsApp is committed to enhancing music sharing capabilities across both iOS and Android platforms.
