West Bengal Assembly Signs MoU for Digital Legislative Transformation
A significant milestone in legislative reform was achieved today as West Bengal’s Legislative Assembly signed a Tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the implementation of the National e-Vidhan Application (NeVA). The ceremony took place in the presence of esteemed officials, including Union Minister Shri Kiren Rijiju, Minister of State Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, and Minister of State Dr. L. Murugan, with Chief Minister Shri Suvendu Adhikari joining through video conferencing.
Highlighting the occasion, Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju emphasized the vital role of digital transformation in legislative institutions. He reaffirmed the Government of India’s dedication to supporting West Bengal’s journey towards becoming a fully digital assembly.
Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari welcomed this initiative, expressing the State Government’s commitment to modernizing governance through technological adoption. He acknowledged the necessity for legislative bodies to embrace digital tools to enhance efficiency.
Importance of Digital Platforms
Minister of State Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal spoke about the significance of digital platforms, noting how they bolster legislative functions and enable Members to access critical information promptly. Similarly, Minister Dr. L. Murugan pointed out that technology enhances citizen engagement, ensures transparency, and improves access to legislative information.
Speaker of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly, Sh. Rathindra Bose, expressed optimism that the NeVA implementation would boost the assembly’s efficiency and transparency, making legislative processes more accessible to the public.
MoU Signing Ceremony
The formalities of signing the MoU were conducted by Dr. Satya Prakash, Additional Secretary from the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, along with Shri Soumendra Nath Das, Principal Secretary of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly, and Smt. Sampa Dhar, Special Secretary of the Parliamentary Affairs Department, representing the West Bengal government.
This latest collaboration makes the West Bengal Legislative Assembly the 33rd in India to adopt the NeVA initiative. With 21 Legislature already achieving full digital integration, this move inches the country closer to its vision of
