Waves Film Bazaar Introduces $20,000 Cash Grants for Co-Production Market at 19th Edition in Goa

Waves Film Bazaar, the largest film market in South Asia, has officially announced the opening of submissions for its Co-Production Market as part of its 19th edition. Scheduled to take place from November 20 to 24, 2025, at the Marriott Resort in Goa, this event runs concurrently with the International Film Festival of India (IFFI). The rebranding of Film Bazaar to Waves Film Bazaar aims to enhance India’s position as a global hub for creative content and co-productions, attracting filmmakers and industry professionals from around the world.
Significance of Waves Film Bazaar
Waves Film Bazaar has become a vital platform for connecting Indian and South Asian filmmakers with international talent. Last year, the event attracted over 1,800 participants from more than 40 countries, underscoring its growing influence in the global film industry. The Co-Production Market, a key feature of the Bazaar, invites submissions for both Feature and Documentary projects. Since its inception in 2007, this market has provided filmmakers with curated opportunities to secure artistic and financial backing, fostering international partnerships and collaborative projects. Notable films such as “The Lunchbox,” “Newton,” and “In the Belly of a Tiger” have benefitted from the support and exposure gained through Waves Film Bazaar, highlighting its impact on the cinematic landscape.
Cash Grants for Winning Projects
For the 2025 edition, Waves Film Bazaar will award a total of $20,000 in cash grants to three selected projects from the Co-Production Market. The distribution of the grants includes $10,000 for the first prize in the Co-Production Market Feature category, $5,000 for the second prize in the same category, and a special cash grant of $5,000 for a documentary project. This initiative, launched in 2024, aims to bridge the gap between creative vision and production by providing essential development funding. In the previous edition, the first prize was awarded to “Kurinji (The Disappearing Flower),” directed by Payal Sethi, while “Kothiyan – Fishers of Men” and “All Ten Heads of Ravana” received the second and third prizes, respectively.
Submission Deadlines and Opportunities
Filmmakers interested in participating in the Co-Production Market must adhere to specific submission deadlines. The deadline for Feature film project submissions is September 7, 2025, while Documentary project submissions will close on September 13, 2025. Selected filmmakers will have the opportunity to engage with producers, distributors, sales agents, and financiers, facilitating collaboration and co-production deals. This interaction is crucial for filmmakers seeking to expand their networks and enhance their projects’ visibility in the international market.
Additional Activities at Waves Film Bazaar
In addition to the Co-Production Market, Waves Film Bazaar offers a variety of activities designed to support filmmakers and industry professionals. These include Market Screenings, a Viewing Room showcasing around 200 new and unseen Indian and South Asian films, and several industry-focused events such as the Work-In-Progress Lab, Knowledge Series, and Producerโs Workshop. These initiatives reinforce Waves Film Bazaar’s commitment to nurturing talent, fostering industry dialogue, and promoting South Asian cinema on a global scale.
