Vikram Bhatt Responds to Rs 30-Crore Fraud Claims, Labels Udaipur FIR as “Misleading”

Filmmaker Vikram Bhatt has found himself at the center of controversy following an FIR filed against him in Udaipur, alleging fraud related to a multi-project film agreement. The complaint, lodged at the Bhupalpura police station, claims that Bhatt and his production company failed to deliver on promised films, leading to accusations of financial misconduct. In response, Bhatt has vehemently denied the allegations, asserting that they stem from misinformation.

Details of the Allegations

The FIR was filed by Dr. Ajay Murdia, who accuses Bhatt’s production company of failing to fulfill a contractual obligation to produce four films in memory of his late wife. According to the complaint, Dr. Murdia claims that he paid an advance for the projects, but only two films were completed, and they were not credited appropriately. Furthermore, he alleges that the most expensive film in the agreement was never initiated. Udaipur District Superintendent of Police, Yogesh Goyal, confirmed that an investigation is underway, with police reviewing the evidence presented in the complaint.

The allegations have raised significant concerns, particularly regarding the financial transactions involved. Dr. Murdia’s complaint suggests that the filmmaker’s company took substantial sums without delivering the agreed-upon content. The police are currently assessing the validity of these claims and gathering statements from both parties to determine the next steps in the investigation.

Vikram Bhatt’s Response

In a statement to ANI, Vikram Bhatt expressed his surprise at the allegations, stating that he first learned of the FIR through media reports and had not received any official communication regarding the matter. He strongly refuted the claim that he orchestrated a ₹30 crore scam, suggesting that the allegations were driven by a desire for a much larger sum of ₹200 crores. Bhatt emphasized that he has not been formally notified about the complaint and questioned the legitimacy of the claims made by Dr. Murdia.

Bhatt further expressed concern that the Rajasthan Police might be misled by the complainant. He pointed out that if the allegations were valid, there should be supporting documentation. He stated, “If the complainant has given such claims, they must have paperwork. Otherwise, police don’t register such cases.” His comments reflect a belief that the situation may be more complex than presented in the FIR.

Challenging the Complainant’s Claims

Vikram Bhatt also took issue with Dr. Murdia’s assertion that he was unfamiliar with the film industry. He questioned why Dr. Murdia would pursue multiple film projects if he lacked industry knowledge. Bhatt highlighted that they had previously collaborated on two films and suggested that the complainant’s understanding of the industry was not as limited as claimed. He mentioned that production on one of their joint projects, titled “Viraat,” was halted due to business decisions made by Dr. Murdia’s company, particularly concerning an upcoming IPO.

Additionally, Bhatt accused the complainant of failing to pay technicians involved in the project, which he argued contributed to the delays. This assertion raises questions about the dynamics of their professional relationship and the responsibilities of both parties in the agreement.

Documentation and Next Steps

In defense of his position, Vikram Bhatt stated that he possesses documentation, including email correspondence and contracts, to substantiate his claims. He expressed his bewilderment at the situation, noting his extensive experience in the film industry without encountering such allegations before. Bhatt indicated that he is prepared to challenge the claims made against him and will seek proof from the complainant regarding the allegations.

As the investigation continues, the Bhupalpura police are diligently examining the complaint, along with the relevant documents and statements from both sides. The outcome of this inquiry will determine the appropriate course of action moving forward, as both parties await clarity on the unfolding situation.
